He makes a good call tbf.

You have Ace high he has a pair draw and flush draw. he made his draw. you lose.

    you shouldn't be miffed.

maybe a tad. but not really too miffed.  maybe ever so slightly jaded.

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON :)

because the odds he is getting on his money are better than his percentage chance of winning the pot both versus Ak and a selection of hands.

yeah didn't see that, plus he would have had over 3k left had he missed. so basically he should have called with any 2 cards? i just couldn't make the call with 10 4 though but maybe thats where i'm going wrong. if you have the odds call?

    Yup :-)

It wasn't as bad as it first appears.

Preflop the equity was Ah-Kh 65%, Ts-4s 35%, ie 1.86/1.00 against ISA. After your shove ISA had to put in 1485 chips to win 2685, that's the same as getting odds of 1.81/1.

So even if you showed him your hole cards before he decided to call he was only making a very slight -ev call (on average a loss of 86 chips per call). If it was a Bounty Hunter tournament the value of your bounty means he was making a +ev call.

He only would have been in worse shape if you held a pair from TT up.

I take it this is either a £30 or £50 DYM going off the names at the table ?

ISA must be the chip daddy & has absolutely no reason to make this call, there is 4 people left & he is guaranteed to get into the money, if he has half a brain :)

The last thing he should be doing is gambling with 10 4 sooted when there is a very good chance of doubling one of the shorties up !!

Summary = VERY BAD CALL (unlucky stan) lol !!

    FIGHT FIGHT !!

Who cares about equity when someone is pushing half there stack in with 10 4, come on people get a grip you wouldn't do it.

Agree completely, its a terror move.

If you're behind and call then it's a bad call regardless of odds, money and percentages because odds are you'll lose. FACT.

Dis-agree with that statement, not necesary there are situations where you have to go in knowing your behind but you get odds etc. the above hand i agree should not be calling with 10 4, but after all live cards and each to their own but that is poor play

Agreed... sometimes you have to see what the flop brings BUT that still doesn't change the fact that 9 times out of 10 you'll be folding the bet on the flop with the thoughts "what could i be beating?" so in my opinion it's a bad call pre

u only had ak high ????
  • edited November 2010

These odds are based on him shoving with AK which he doesn't have to have here, JJ and up are entirely possible. Calling off 1/3 of my stack with 10 4 pre, must be a losing move in the long run. I would fold to the shove and wait for a better spot.

    Hi Stan,

The Poker Clinic will be repeated on Channel 865 later in the week (please check the TV schedule for details).

But, for info, here's how Trevor and I summarised the villain's pre-flop call with T4s...

In a standard NLHE tournament: marginal.
In a BH tournament: fair enough.
    In a DYM: horrible!

its a terrible play in this format, if hes calling a shove then he should be shoving first
