very bad run of late!!

edited November 2010 in Poker Chat
just a few questions ,
i am by no means a great player or a terrible player ( in my opinion ) , more for fun really and hope to make a little money !! so , i like to play sit n gos for £5 dym and scarys , and i always do really well and cash in about 90% , then when i have a bankroll of say £100 i like to mix it up on the cash tables , this is where it all goes wrong LOL
i find on the cash tables the people with the biggest bankrolls bust me out even when i know im ahead i go all in and they always without fail hit the magic card and its always the river !!!! is a player who knows there way behind right or wrong to call an all in with just a flush draw ??? is it coz they have no fear of losing say £50 that they call or is it that the odds of hitting after the flop worth the risk ????

i know everyone will say just stick to dyms but grinding on cash tables is the quickest way i believe to make a return , also get busted !!!! i do enjoy all forms of holdem , but these bad beats are just crippling !!!

any advice would be greatly appreciated ,

p.s and no if u tell me to quit poker i wont ....LOL although my bank manager may agree
pps with a bankroll of £500 what is the best strategy ??? grind cash £1 £2 or dyms
thanks in advance

Maybe try and work out exactly what form of poker you're best at. I'm sure I've seen you playing in MTTs too. Have a good look at your SnG, DYM, cash and MTT results and try to work out which is the most and least profitable according to both game type and stake. All four demand different styles of play, if you specialise on the one you're best at you will probably find you will get even better still and your bankroll should start going the right way. I did a similar exercise a few months ago and realised I make far more money playing £2/£5 bounty hunters than anything else, so I dropped the DYMs where I'd been wasting most of my time playing for a much smaller return. Good luck.

If you want to grind up a roll properly and not be depositing frequently then you need much better BR managment.

How many tables do you play? If its just 1 I would recommend having 20 buyins, so if your roll is £500 then you should not be sat with more than £25, so 10p/20p is the best stake, or maybe 15/30. Always sit with the full stack. From your explanation it sounds to me like your short stacking (Not sitting with the maximum) You will find a lot of players will call you light if your short and you will get out drawn alot. You mentioned playing £1 / £2 and people not minding losing £50, if you were sat with £200 they would not call an all in for a flush, where as £50 they wouldn't think twice.

If your winning alot at DYM then why not try and increase the buyins on that rather than change discipline. Winning £10 is better than losing £50.

    Goodluck
