Poker Calculator

edited December 2010 in Poker Chat
First of all, apologies if theres been a post about this before.

I've seen numerous mentions of these "poker calculators" where you work out percentages judging by your hand, the board and your opponents range. Also seens rich and the guys use them on the shows.

Im wondering if people use them? and if they are frowned upon by skypoker?

Thanks.

There only really used after the decision to review hands, at least that's how I use the one I have.

Think it would take too long to try to work it out during, so you have to try to remember percentages from hands you have analysed for future decisions.

Don't see a problem with that.

They are fine, and only work out the %age of you winning say vs 2 other hands preflop and after.

I like they use them after some hands to see how far ahead or behind I was when I got the money in.

there's loads of free to use ones online. You don't really get any great advantage from them during play so I can't see why they would be frowned upon.

It is useful to know what percentage certain hands are in different situations though.

Thanks for the replies, i wasnt really thinking of using it in game, as primarily im looking for one so i can review my hands to see if i played them right.

Don't think the scale on the one Sky uses is quite up to measuring Maxy's Donkage ;o)

    News to me!

It's possible, but highly unlikely, that any Sky Poker Presenter or Analyst has ever used any of these artificial aids during a Show.

In fact, I've never used ANY artificial poker aid (software) ever ever ever, & I never will. There is no need, imo.

Neither has Orford, in fact, but that's self-evident.

I think Ed may have run a hand odds question though some analytical tool once.  Or maybe he was just staring into the screen calculating in his head.

I have seen Orford do the same stare at the screen in the past.  I think he was trying to work out which was the River and which was the Turn.

Poker Pro Tools is also a quick and easy odds calculator.
