The right shove?

edited December 2010 in The Poker Clinic
Hello, this hand is from the £500 deep stack tonight, I'm curious to know if I "played it right".

I 4x raise from the cut-off with 10s. The small blind 3x re-raises me. I put him on a range of obvious hands. AA, KK, QQ, JJ. And then I'm wondering, would he do this out of position with AK, my raise was my standard 4x raise, we werent completely unfamiliar to each others play as he'd been at the table for some time so he knows this is a standard raise. Would he really 3x re-raise here from the small blind? What if he completely misses, would he take that chance with Ace High? Personally I don't re-raise from that spot, but obviously not everyone plays the same.

In the end I shove, I'm never flat calling the re-raise and praying I see a pretty flop or hit my set, I am either folding or shoving and giving myself 3 chances to win.

Is this the right shove though? It's easy to think it might be because I won the hand, but I put him on a range of hands and most of this range was ahead of my tens. Or is he doing this with other hands, 99? AQ? They're probably not hands I re-raise with out of position, but again, not everyone plays the same.

I feel I put my tournament at risk and went in hoping he had AK and my tens held, or I got lucky enough to hit my set.

Did I really need to do that? Does anyone find the strength to fold here?

i like the way you talk about this hand its pretty good, like you i would be expecting him to be 3 betting with the top of his range from the SB, unless you have been very active and hes trying to exploit that, so if hes betting the top of his range then your 10s are in pretty bad shape, i would fold here unless we were much deeper then it would be possible to call and play a flop in position
