sky poker tv v sky sports query
Hi there
In another thread some weeks back Tikay mentioned how he and the presenter of the 5-00 show could have more of a laugh for the first hour shown on sky poker tv then focus more seriously on the poker once it was broadcasting on the sky sports channel. I asked Tikay why the first hour wasnt shown on sky sports and why the content was intentionally changed once sky sports was showing the tournament.
Tikay said he'd answer these questions but i dont think he had a chance at the time as he was busy with the show. I'd be interested in knowing the reasons behind the programming.
Also, I notice tonight that sky sports isnt showing the 5-00 live and i wonder why not? As someone who does not receive the sky poker channel, this can be frustrating. I appreciate that i can watch it on the internet but my current broadband situation is not the fastest which affects the quality of viewing.
Any insight greatly appreciated
Ray.

Hi Ray,
Sorry I failed to respond to your question last time.
Sky Sports take the 5-00 most weeks, but sometimes, when there is a scheduling clash, (Football cup-replays, for example, cause havoc with scheduling) they cannot find room for it. This is very rare - the 5-00 is currently scheduled to be on Sky Sports every week. But it's a dynamic schedule, so it cannot be guaranteed.
Why do they not take the full three hours? Air-Time on Sky Sports is very precious, & they can - at present - only allocate 2 hours to Sky Poker. This may change soon - fingers crossed! Again, it's a dynamic situation. And as a hardcore Poker Show, maybe Sky Sports think 3 hours may be a bit too long to hold viewers attention - that's just a guess, I don't know.
Why does the Content change when we switch to Simulcast? Two reasons really.
1) That's a Regulatory thing. Channel 865 has the ability to "call to action" players to go visit skypoker.com, & make them aware of upcoming Tournaments. This is subject to very strict control. It wouyld be entirely inappropriate to say the same things when on Sky Sports though, for any number of Regulatory & Commercial reasons.
2) When on 865 only, we have a very focussed audience reach, we know them, they know us, & we can push the boundaries a little as to how we come across. Orford Heaven, if you get my drift! But when on Sky Sports, the audience reach is FAR wider, & we are less familiar to them, so we, as my Dad used to say, are on best behavious, with socks pulled right up to the knees!
I hope that answers your questions.
Many thanks for taking the time to respond to my thread.
I appreciate the insight you provided and cannot fault the logic.
Hopefully sky sports will pick up more poker in the near future.
Cheers
