Looking to Start Playing Live at the Local Casino - Teeside Gala

edited January 2011 in Poker Chat
Just wondering if anybody can help regarding live tournaments at my local casino, never played at a casino or a pub, just with mates and online.

Here are the details of the tournaments I would be interested in. (for stake reasons-havent got massive amounts to bet with)

Monday
£20 +£2 rebuy. £4000 Guaranteed & Complimentary Buffet

Tuesday
£30 Freeze Out – Bounty Bonanza (5 x £30 bounties)

Friday
£10 Rebuy Madness

If anyone can give me any advice on how the above tournaments work would be appreciated. For example, Whats Bounty Bonanza, do I have to pay extra? How many rebuys will you be aloud and when will they stop.

Many Thanks in advance

Although I have no idea of exact details as I have never played at this casino, I have played tonnes live so can roughly guess.

£20 rebuy - £4k gtd. So firstly there is going to be a min of 200 buyins. (inc rebuys). Dont know how many runners it will have, but in this sort of tourny, the average is normally like 3 buyins. £62. But best to take cover for more. Just incase but hopefully not have to use them.

£30 FO, will just be £30. No rebuys. And my guess is they will pick 5 players to have a £30 bounty on their head. If you knock them out, you win £30. The money for this would prob come out the prizepool.

£10 rebuy madness. This seems like it will be very fast paced, Lots of rebuys, lots of gambling, lots of fun. but would probably need alot of rebuys. Maybe something like 6+

Casinos arent neccessarily a good place to play poker when your a beginner. Because they are normally fairly high buyins. (£10 rebuy sounds small, but not once youve have 6+ rebuys.). Because they want to create big prizepools, so the winners can lose it on the table games after.

ps All rebuys seem like theyre unlimited.

Hi JBuss, I live in Hartlepool and played my first live poker at the Teesside Gala about a year ago.

It was a £5 rebuy (which they don't do now) and while I it was a fun night rebuys don't suit my tight playing style. By their nature rebuys are much more gambly than freezeouts.

Starting stacks were only 1,200 chips and by level 2 the blinds were 50/100 so you are always pretty short and many of the regs were going all in blind.

You could rebuy as many times as you wanted for the first 90 minutes then it became a straight knock out.

It may be a bit of a trek for you, but I would much recommend Aspers in Newcastle as they have more affordable freezeouts. I play the Wed afternoon £10 deepstack when I can and really enjoy it.

It is a nice cardroom and the tournie usually gets 50-70 runners and if you play tight and pick your spots carefully it is not too difficult to make the final table and get a nice little cash.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Jonathon,
If you can make it, come to the Aspers in Newcastle this Saturday for about 1 pm. You can get to know some of the regulars and have a go in some sit n go's (there are some £10ers usually). Other than thatsave up to play a better buy-in tourney, maybe every month or two.
Where do you live in C. Durham.
