£2.20 deepstack, turn decision for stack with overpair.

edited January 2011 in The Poker Clinic

I had just moved to this table and had no reads on villain at all. I had been quiet for a few hands, but i just doubled up in the bb, the previous hand before.

My instinct said call as i cant see what this dude has... but... would you call, or sigh fold?... I suppose he coulda had a bigger overpair I just dunno!

The more i see this i think call... but ill leave it up to you lot!

Type many bad things then fold.

This is a bizarre hand, especially given the format of the tourney.

Let's have a look at the candidate hands.

AA-TT: my hunch would be that, more often than not, Villain reraises with these hands preflop. I'd be tempted to remove these from his range, although it is always possible he's being sneaky and slow playing big pairs in this spot.
AK: Again, I'd fancy him to reraise this one pre. That said, calling pre and then peeling on the flop is a possibilty, even if it's spewy. The shove on the turn doesn't seem to tie in though unless he's putting you on a range similar to AK/AQ/KQ and decided to float you on the flop.
AQo-A5s: Possible hands to flat with, although I'd prefer reraising with the AQ and AJ. Those hands which pair on the flop (A8 and A7, essentially) would probably play the hand in a similar way?
99-22: these hands would flat pre-flop I reckon.
KQ/KJ/QJ: do we see these calling a flop bet? Ugh if so.

So that leaves us with something like: A8/A7/99/88/77/66/44/33/22. Fairly narrow range of hands and we're only in bad shape against four specific hands. I'd be VERY surprised if he shows you AA/KK, so I would call and note the hand for future reference.

Heck, we do have some nines for outs too ;)

Could have like 56d for a pair and two draws, enough to shove with, but dunno whether he's loose enough to call pre with a hand like that..

i think he has 8x type hands more often than 2pair/sets i would call this with potential outs but wouldn't be overly happy....a decent player would prolly fold tho lol

I would call with your image.  If he's ever been on the forum he knows that you can fold big hands.  Obviously not a set, but you could fold out some overpairs and all overcards.
