Thanks for the updates Dave, only just got to see the thread, busy getting 2nd place and all that, lol. ;-)
A similar thing will happen on Wednesday, so I'll let you know the details then, perhaps we can get another bumper field.
The Heads up was sort of "inter-forum", us v next door, Machka v a player called "Nunny".
I explained next door who Machka was, a little potted history, so I ought to do the same here as to "Nunny".
"Nunny" is "The Nun" next door, her real name is Maureen, & she works for Northern Trains as a conductor, or Train manager.
About 6 years ago, her Grandson, Reece, was born with very severe intestinal problems, & was not expected to do so well in life, shall we say. More than a hundred operations & life threatening illnesses later, he's still confounding the doctors, & he's about 6 now, & goes to school. He's very small for his age, due to his medical problems, but I'll settle for that, it's a miracle he's still alive.
The Forum sort of "adopted" him, & started contributing money to help him lead a better life, holidays, that sort of thing.
Then an organisation called P4C - Poker4Charity - ran a benefit evening for him, at The Western Poker Club, in Park Royal, London. About £8,000 was raised, of which about half came from an online poker site where a Member called Andrew Tracey worked. You may "know" AndrewT as "DrMarbles", & his brother is Uzi-Lover.
Unbelievably, the charity tried to do a runner with the money. After a long battle, we recovered about half of it, which went into Reece's fund.
Other fund-raising stuff has been done for him - one guy did a charity walk, & people send portions of their poker winnings or profits from "stakes" to the Fund. SPT-Rich & a guy called Red-Dog sort of "look after" & validate the Fund as unofficial Trustees.
I think the fund is up to about £8,000 now. The dream is for the lad to be taken to Disneyland with his Mum, (Stacey, a single parent), & Maureen & Darren, the grandparents. The visit is complicated & expnsive, as Reece needs expensive & specialist medical treatment & kit, & has to be plugged into a machine every night.
The dream trip will be, we hope, quite soon, as Maureen is currently getting quotes for everything.
The picture of Maureen, Darren, below, by the way, was taken at a charity Poker do that "Waynecure" held in the autumn up in Halifax. Lovely people.
There you go. Behind every faceless poker alias there is a story. This is a lovely one.

Was a pleasure to play Maureen and the win was well deserved. It's always interesting to get to know something about the players you are playing against. It's one of the things that make SPTs so much fun. Hopefully we can have more of the same Wednesday.
I hope that Reece's charity gets some more exposure on here and his dream holiday happens soon.
Maureen works for Northern Trains... I bet your conversations are riveting! ;-)
