Poker goals... next 6 months?

edited April 2011 in Poker Chat
Hello...

Been having an enforced long break (long story), but back now...

I have half a dozen goals (MTT player mainly).  Does anyone else set really quite optimistic goals for themselves for the coming 6-12 months? Would love to see a few? Is it a good idea?

Mine are, with months I hope to achieve them below...

Feb - Final table of a TSP classic / an open
March - Final Table of Primo
April - qualify for local SPT (Leeds)
May - last until first break of SPT Leeds
June - win something; even if it's only a small MTT, STT,  2 player roulette ;)

The above may seem totally unreallistic, but I did manage an open win and a few final tables early last year.

Really looking forward to seeing you all / chatting on the tables in the near future.

Dan (dtm75)

I too have dropped down due to horrific downswing so really my poker goals are more live poker based as it is my game!

    1. Final table an SPT (have FT'ed an APAT event and an SPT side event so am capable)
    2. Cash in the SPT Final at Nottingham (20th last year)
    3. Continue to cash regularly in the local poker scene (also Leeds)
    4. FT the open or Primo on Sky (limited as I am only BR for sats

    Mine for 2011 are:

    * Proper BRM, and increase BR 4x (on track so far but it's early days)
    * Start playing cash properly rather than once a month when I'm drunk on payday (going well at 30-40NL so far)
    * Win a sky main event
    * Keep proper records for each session: game type, time spent, P/L, etc.

That last one has helped a lot and is something I'd encourage anyone to do who isn't already...just in the space of a few weeks it's really improved my approach to the game on a number of levels.

Good luck with your goals everyone!

Well I have had a good first year on here!

So I just want to move up the cash stakes over the next 6  months.....................

    mine would be...

to get to grips with my bankroll, i alays deposit 20 play well and carefull and build it up to 150ish only to jump to a high stakes table and donk it off in 10 minutes..not good.

also to play a live sky event, hopefully luton..

and to finally win the lottery

mine is pretty simple to last a week without having to reload lol and to stay away from cash as i always seem to donk my BR off on there and hopefully by the end of the year to have a nice healthy BR if not quit poker lol

Which one? The Super 6 freeroll? ;)

I'm going to set myself a target of £2,000 profit online this year. I did it in 2010, but that included a freak result, just under £1K for 4th in The Primo with a free entry (courtesy of Sky). That alone accounted for around 40% of my profit. Obviously it's very unlikely anything like that will happen again in 2011, so I need a big improvement in my ordinary day-to-day results to match last years total. Normally I don't play in any events with a buy-in above £5 (+ fee) unless I satellite in, and I rarely play in the evening due to my work hours, so I'll be playing mainly low buy-in daytime MTTs as I strive for my goal. In Oct-Nov-Dec I was in red hot form, if I can sustain that run my target shouldn't be a problem.

    So far so good (click to enlarge);

My short term goal is to simply get through this downswing without gong busto! This is without doubt the worst downswing I have ever encountered & I know it's starting to play on my mind now.

I'm gonna try & ride it out a little longer but if I can't then I'm gonna take a sizeable break to try & get my poker head back together.

I'm going to win a tourny on sky if it kills me.

Try to build a decent bankroll (just starting out on it), cash regularly and improve my game, then I'll look to start doing well in the bigger tourney's.

I'm happy to report that I've already made my target for 2011. My profit on Sky alone so far is around £1,067 (if you Scope me it needs to adjusted for entries won in freerolls/satellites inc £220 deepstack, and cash-for-points). I've also had some some decent tournament scores on other sites which make the total over £2K. Considering this I've decided to increase my goal for the year to £4,000.

    Very nice goin Gary

Csn you pm me some tips plz

just checked my Sharkscope and 587 games and over 2 years later i,m a tenner up

My goals are just to cut out the silly mistakes and take it a bit more seriously at times  when playing - not missing hands ( toilet brks - etc, etc  )  by  getting distracted , by TV and films - and organise my time better, away from poker as well - and not to nod off with a full house and miss the timebar in the £33 BH on a 5 A A board with 55 against A Q and A K which held up or wudda held up for 2 bountys and more than dbl chips

    Good going mate.

Set myself a target yesterday of BRM. Gave myself 2 weeks to turn 200 to 500 using BRM

Sitting with 450 on the second day... Liking it :)

Well played Gary, I'm in a similar boat (more through luck than judgement!) and it's a nice feeling to be reassessing targets upwards early in the year. I have added "Don't lose any ground you've gained" as #1 priority to my list though :)
