2 mtt hands

edited March 2011 in The Poker Clinic

The first one, is a call or fold spot.

I've flopped the nuts in the big blind un-raised, I figured there's not alot of point betting the flop, as there's only 1 7 left in the deck. (althought maybe this was a mistake)

The turn is sure to bring some draws, which I can lead out on, and get action, and hopefully get value on the river too.

However, the river is pretty horrid, and he snap jams.

Is a fold too tight here?

Same mtt, final table, bubble just burst.

Villain has been really loose/aggressive. I would say bad aggressive.

I decided to limp the button with the intention of shoving if he raised.

It worked perfectly, but he actually had a hand this time.

Is ATs here not enough to try and induce with? Or was my play fine?

Just wondering if raise/calling is better than limp/shoving? Or even open shoving against this type of laggy spewy player?

1st hand: tougth spot. I like the way you played it. you havnt really got any options come the river, stack sizes makes a bet/fold line bad, if villian had a bit more you could consider a bet/fold, but cant do that with his stack. you could try for thin value on the river but id hate a raise from villian and he should fold most hands you beat. A check does get to induce plenty of bluffs from missed clubs and pairs he has decided to turn into a bluff  but the board is so ugly, but saying that you have under repped your hand loads and the fact he insta-shoved suggests more bluffs. Id make a reluctant call but I cant blame a fold either.

2nd hand: Probablies just a mis-type but your in the sb right? not the btn.
My standard is to shove pre here against all villian types, even with 15bb its unexsploitable and +EV.
The trouble with limp/shoving here is, how much FE are you exspecting in this blind battle, from my experience not as much as you first think, and you need plently of FE with AT here IMO, Id keep it simple and shove pre.

first hand i would prob be bet/folding like 600.  worse can call and pay us off a tad and he prob only shoves when we are beat.  if we do bet/fold we still have 22bb so we still ahve a playable stack.

second hand i thinks ok, very player dependent.  would prefer to raise ourselves tho but again if you had a read then go with it.
