Too aggressive?

Hi, folks,

Played the £150 guaranteed last night and this hand has got me thinking (dangerous!).  Should I have just called the raise with the cowboys instead of the all in?  If I had bet on the flop I don't think the villan can call with that board.  As you can see the turn & river were beautiful cards for the villan but that's poker!

Played it perfectly - be glad you got it in ahead.

    Don't be results orientated.

AGREE WITH RICKY IF YOUVE GOT KK IN A GUARANTEED YOU WANT TO BE GETTING ALL YOUR CHIPS IN AND CALLED ASAP. YOU WERE WELL AHEAD UNTIL A MIRACLE RIVER. WHICH IF HE DOESNT HIT YOUVE TRIPPLED OVER

You make a good point about the villain being unable to call after the flop. I remember a hand I played a while back where i ended up re-raising all in pre-flop with AA and was called by 88. Flop came K Q 10, turn nothing, river 8. If I hadn't made him put all his chips in pre-flop there's no way he could have called another bet on the flop...

    Hi Ross,
When you bet allin the only info you had was that if you called the bet, you would have been left with1100 chips.
Now then if you had done that and the flop came down as it did, you would have had to fold to any bet, as preflop action pointed to one of them having an ace(raise and reraise).
You did exactly what i would have done in that situation, you pushed and must have thought that you were up against aces from at least one of those players.
You cannot look at this hands outcome and question your play. You got your chips in first and ahead but was out drawn by a monster.
The question you should ask yourself is, IN THE SAME SITUATION WOULD YOU DO THE SAME THING?. The answer should be YES. Why, in a quick structured tourney, with the second best stating hand, you will play like that all the time, if they have aces so be it.
However, depending on the action, you have to be able to put kings down, i'll give you an example.
In a cash game a couple of months ago, i had aces, my opponent had kings(i was bb). He flat called and i raised another 60p(10-20 blinds), he then reraised to £2.40, so i rereraised to £8.60, he went allin and i called. I hit another ace and won the hand, the player then berated my play, questioning the 60p raise and when another player on the table said it was obvious i held aces he went nuts, having a go at me calling me a disgusting name.
Anyway my point is that he said" I NEVER FOLD KK PREFLOP", imo that is stupid as in the right situation you should fold aces, when, in a satelitte when on the bubble, where you are in a commanding lead, then AA can be foled as you are not trying to win the tourney but just qualify.
Some people will disagree with that but that is my opinion.
    YOU DID NOWT WRONG M8.

    Hi Ross
Imissed read the hand review, you hit a set on the flop so even if you had just called preflop, your money would have gone in anyway so dont beat yourself up m8.
My other post might give you food for thought if you ever have a situation with KK and not hitting a set.
I do tend to go off on a tangent sometimes, in my defence i've just got and am still groggy lol

I Think your right, He can't call if you take it to the flop and push there, but if you could have seen the cards pre-flop you would have played it exactly the same way. You want want your money in when he only has 2 outs. If you play it slower yo umiss a massive edge to get paid so i would be happy with my decision to get the money in first in this situation

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

I always like reading your responses Col and I appreciate the time you have taken with it.  I'd still play the hand the same way but is interesting to get some different opinions.

Hope you are fully awake now and hope to see you on the tables!

    Cheers

    Ross
