Blackjack........

edited March 2011 in The Shed

Can anyone tell me what edge the dealer/house has when playing blackjack in a casino?

Why will they always win over time?

Thanx.

House edge varies according to the number of decks used ,from 0.13% with one  to 0.65% with eight. This is assuming optimum play and no local rule alterations. The most noticeable difference is from one to two decks which is 0.46%.

and they will always win over time unless someone is card counting if you play 1,000,000 hands you will lose 20,000 lets say pounds and over as large a sample it  is usually near the probability factor.

Yes but what is there edge??? Whats their advantage in the actual game-play???

I don't see what they have in their favour that makes them win??

Like roulette is the zero on the board......

    What is it with BJ?

The house edge is gained because the house wins every time the player and the dealer busts. Once a players hand exceeds 21, the house wins irrespective of the dealers cards.

Another couple of tips never take insurance and DONT play the side games on blackjack , pairs plus ect as they are EASY MONEY FOR THE CASINO.

I always figured its edged in their favour due to the fact that the player is crazy to risk draw, whereas the dealer will stick at 17, beating the safety, yet always drawing to beat the 17 through 19's, with the even money 20 and 21 binks.

It doesnt pay you to risk draw, but always pays them too.  Thats the way i always figured it...

And this is one of the reasons that I have my skyvegas account blocked, not that im a big black jack player/slots or roulette player. I want the edge to be in my favour hence apart from the odd sports bet my main game is poker!

Not too sure what the difference is in terms of %, but the house always has an edge with one hand against all the players, where as the player is playing v one hand.

Doesn't keep me away from the BJ when in the casino though!!!!!!

whats the best way to get good at BJ as there seems to be a lot of new games springing up where you can play an opponent over 5, 10 or more hands and whoever ends up with the most chips after this wins

This clearly makes it a game of skill -Do you know anywhere I could get some advive or tips on playing these sort of games?

    Yes ....dont do it !

The reason they introduce these new games is that they give them an extra house edge which is still supposedly regulated in straight online blackjack. There is a website called blackjack-beating bonuses which is useful. There is a link from Wikipedia.

I would add that I dont play it at all , apart from strictly for fun money in Vegas last year. But it made me interested enough to research it. My next project is trying to work out craps !
