Getting laughed at by Simon Trumper

edited April 2011 in The Poker Clinic
Playing a £500FO.

Am going to give the hand up to the flop, would be really grateful for imput.

Around 300 runners.  Sit down, stacks 10k, blinds 25/50 25mins.

1st hand some guy makes its 450, gets two callers, crazy.  2nd hand guy makes it 450, gets raised to 1200, gets a call out of the blinds, plus the OR.  3 way showdown at river, mainly junk.  I get chatty, commenting on the huge standard openings (but secretly praying for a hand).

5th hand, some guy makes it 300, I find KcKs, re pop it to 1150 from the SB.  BB mulls over his hand and makes it 3500.  Opening raiser folds.  I think about shoving, but it was a long drive so just call.

Jc4c7h  7300 in the pot I have 6500 behind.

I bet 2200, the guy checks his cards, moves all in.  16000 in the pot, with 4300 behind.

This is a TV tournament, fair few cameras around.  This guy is the first to be all in, Simon Trumper is hosting.  Pause the tournament, cameras come over, ST stood off to my right doing his thing.

Can only put the guy on AA, AKc, J's, A'Jx, Q's OR a complete airball, counting on someone laying down a monster early.  Never played the guy before, for all I know he's hugely overplayed AJ.  But if I fold and he shows QQ, AJ AKc I know I tilt so bad my games over anyhow.

I call.      He shows    ???

i like that flat pre, however i hate the tiny lead on the flop. surely you just have to check/call it off

Lol I hate that flat pre!!

Ive  had a really bad live run of K's vs Ax lately and i think I was hoping to see an A high flop so could fold.  There was no trap strategy, plus the 4 bet can very easily be A's  I really didnt want to play big pots early.  Just wanted to sit back and do abit of recon.  Believe it or not I was seriously considering folding pre.  It really ought to have been a fold or a jam.

Got to say 500 is my upper limit in non specialised MTT/FO, but still making a nice side line at roulette so was essentially freerolling.

    fold pre, dont show anyone

I like that flat call with the kings there  !  You jam it all in on flop if no ace comes anyway, If ace hits flop you fold.

If he has aces anyway you lost  no matter

    he has J4/J7/47

You guys really think he'd 4 bet pre with 7's or 4's?  I discounted those immediately.

It was AA, had me covered suited also.  This one has really nagged at me, I can make big folds, given time and a read.  But against some random guy I just have to believe it could just as easily be the AKc, Q's or AJ.  I guess.

Felt he had it, but the pots so big, remaining stack so small I dont think its ever going to be a fold.  Your essentialy playing a 20k pot, even if I put him on A's (which I kind of did) - I looked for a read by saying "you could  just be some crazy guy overplaying AJ", to which he replied "....have you got K's?".  My hand should have flew at the muck at this point -  :(  Just hated it.  Never gone out of a MTT first before.

Got a nice bottle of red though :p

Curious as to why you say this.  I respect your game and to be honest I did strongly lean to this.  Partly because K's have been a death hand to me lately and as I  said, I just didnt want to play a big hand early for what was likely to be allin post flop without any information or recon.  I never act quickly and this was an option I seriously considered, feeling that I had an overall advantage over most of the players at my table, and there would likely be many smaller safer pots throughout the first 8 or so levels.  If he does flat from the BB I'm doing my stack post, but with the resistance so early I think there is real wisdom in this (this stack size/structure).  If we had 30k, I 5bet to around 10500, folding to a shove, but at 10k, I cant even make him fold AK AQs after his 4bet pre.

I dont know if your joking or not, but if not, would you mind confiming the reasoning please?

Do you reckon it will make it to the tv screens then ?

Well someone had to ask it.

    get in pre for me

as played i call hope he has overplayed AJ, possible he has JJ here too

I was interviewed afterwards and told it would likely be in the venue's magazine, leading up to the repeat of the event.  If it is I'll post a thread.  If it is aired I will post a thread also.

Funny thing was when I was having my picture taken with some scantily clad thing the photographer said "Try and look as though your annoyed about it".

(As though he needed to tell me to look annoyed)

Agree, if he's overplayed I should love it.  If I'm crushed I cant fold post to a non A board anyhow.  As i said, ought to have been a jam or fold.

people cold 4betting in live tournaments 1st level are going to have KK+ 99% of the time

doubling up early on in a tournament isnt a huge advantage

we still have 180bbs left if we fold

and we dont show incase he shows us  QQ/AK

one thing i will say is that 25min clock for £500 televised FO is really really bad
  • edited April 2011
Dont think its all televised, just the highlights, interspersed into larger material.

So you wouldnt want to see opponents hand?  Just assume its A's and continue building feel for the table?  Think I'm going to file this one away, I guess if he shows you Q's your going to get into a negative mindset.

Lots of lessons for me on this one.  Have seriously never left a live MTT 1st (last).  I wouldnt recommend it, just horrible.  Did you know that 1st out and bubble boy of WSOPME are freerolled the following year?

When I called, flipping the K's.  Just laughed and asked why I'd thought so long over it.  Not pleasant when he's hosting it with the mic and cameras come over though..
