Swimming With A Shark

edited April 2011 in Poker Chat
The idea of this is to give micro players a shot at playing a relatively big cash game against a TSP player (the shark).

The qualifier takes place on a Friday @ 8:00 and is restricted to 250 players (registration for this could go up on  the Monday) with an entry fee of £2 (*no rake, see below)

You play until five players remain, starting stack 3000 with 12min blinds @ 10/20 20/40 30/60 40/80 50/100 (5min break) 75/100 100/200 150/300 200/400 300/600 (5min break) 400/800 500/1000 600/1200 800/1600 1000/2000 (5min break) 1200/2400 1500/3000 2000/4000 2500/5000 3000/6000 (5min break) 4000/8000 5000/10000 6000/12000 7000/14000 8000/16000...

The five remaining players qualify for Swimming With A Shark on the Saturday night @ 9:00, this is a NLH cash game with a guest TSP player which would take one of the following formats:

1) Each qualifier receives a £100 buy-in @ 50p/£1

2) Each qualifier receives two £50 buy-ins @ 25p/50p

The game lasts for two hours and players are unable to stand or sit out before the two hours are up (maybe a 5min break after an hour).

In the 25p/50p version if a player lost his first buy-in the second £50 would be instantly loaded but the players could top up from it at any time.

*£2 no rake - well Survivor has no rake so why not and the cash game will be raked as normal so Sky will still make money in the end but I would not be against the entry being £2.20 either.

Thanks to everyone who took time to vote on this but i'm a bit disappointed at the lack of feedback.

If you have any thoughts then please post, positive negative or abusive it's all good.

i dont like it, simply because lets imagine someone who has only £2 in his account makes top 5-brilliant. but then sits with the tsp player nl100 doubles up. he now has £200 from his £2 BUT ur rules state he cant stand, so he risks losin the lot (potential suicide) all just has to sit there for 2 hours foldin every hand.

or someone loses there buy-in straight away, where do they go from there? if they cant afford to reload?

Anyone registering knows what the prize is, so if they don't like the format they would be daft to play in the first place.

Sure, the players risk losing all the cash in the game but for only an initial £2 they have a chance of making hundreds and the thrill of playing at a level that would normally be beyond their means.

I agree that a player or two bursting out early may be a problem for the dynamics of the game, so I would propose that if a qualifier bust out and didn't want/was unable to reload then the seat would become available to any player willing to buy-in.

    Appreciate the post though.
