4 bet!

edited April 2011 in The Poker Clinic
could anyone explain to me (in simple terms ) when a 4 bet should and can be used ie how many people would be involved in a pot(thinking if it was just 2 people why not go all). should it be used against serial 3 betters? what % of players would fold to a 4 bet if they had 3 bet. last question can you 4 bet with anything less than the nuts(refering back to how many fold a 3bet) ah, 1 more can this bet be used at lower end cash tables nl20/50 or is it getting a bit too cute , and an allin would be a better coarse of action. phil

Im assuming you are talking about preflop

you can 4bet bluff against people who 3bet a lot and can fold hands.  You can 4bet for value with hands you are happy to get it in with. If you only do it for value shoving is fine. If you are sometimes bluffing then your 4bet should be small (depends on stacksizes and 3bet size, but usually around 2.4x 3bet) and either fold or get it in depending on whether its for value or a bluff

Against bad players dont 4bet bluff, and you are probably better just shoving value hands
