The countdown to Sky Poker's invasion of Walsall has begun...

edited April 2011 in Poker Chat
Yes, there's just a few days to go till Sky Poker's elite team of poker players, (and myself) head to the Midlands to tear up the main event of the GUKPT Walsall Leg 2011.

I don't think those balti houses are going to know what's hit 'em, frankly.

With our growing reputation as serious contenders in the online industry and now in the live arena with the white-hot signing recently of our first superstar pro- Julian Thew, the blue hoodies which now pop up at the tables around more and more and big events are now to be respected and feared.

I'm privileged to be playing in this upcoming event, along with the rest of the lads. I hope you can follow us online on the day!

    See you there Rich!

Chances of me qualifying for this = 0
Temptation to come anyway and cause rail-related havoc = rising

    Hehe.

I should clarify that's the poker rail and not railway-related havoc, before Tikay gets too excited.

I'm planning on hitting the rail too (on Friday 29th) ... must avoid television at any cost!

    QUESTION.

Orford gets a seat to GUKPT Walsall, & I don't - what's that about? He's a complete duffer, never gone beyond Level 1 in the Luton Tourneys, & thinks a straight is 7-8-9-J.

    It's outrageous.

Have you been teaching him about body language tells ? I'm guessing his biggest one will be counting out the potential straight with his fingers and thumbs.

    I LOVE ACIDMAN.

Where's the seat? Not the bench outside surely?

It's in a service station on the way there.

The TSP entries have now all been paid in, we sent a wire-transfer yesterday for a shed-load of money. So far, the following are entered.

    Dan

    Reds

    Ryan (scotty)

    Solidstan

    Wayne

    Oh, & plonker.

Plus, of course, anyone who qualifies via the Sky Poker GUKPT Satellites will also be entered.

    Pretty exciting, really.

I gather a lot of the lads will be up there railing, Dylan just pinged me, he'll be there, a few others, too, & I assume Lewis will be playing.

I will be there on the Friday, & Rich Milner &/or Blandy all weekend, but I have to shoot back to London on the Saturday to do the Show.

I'll then go back up to Walsall on the Sunday to rail our guys who make the Final. You never know, Orford might Final.

We might pop down (Up?) to rail at some point, planning on being in Covenry that weekend.

Good luck men (This thing needs a womans touch!!)

    Just THREE days to go!

    I'm not excited, honest!

I snuck off for a sneaky practice tournament last night at the Vic Casino in London. A £60 freezeout turbo with 7,500 chips and 15 minute blinds.

After about an hour I was chip leader. About another two hours after that, I went out.

Although, it was on the final table bubble! So come on, it wasn't too shoddy. That said, I don't know if this is a good or bad omen. Have I now used up all my poker god goodwill already? Or was that bubble the final slap round the chops before the poker gods smile on me at long last for the big one?

My target in my first ever big buy-in tournament is to make it to Day 2. Anything beyond that is a bonus. And a miracle.

What's my gameplan? Well, I'm rather hoping actually that all those gruff seasoned poker-playing pros will be so capitivated by Kate Middleton's dress on the TV, that I'll be nicking their blinds left, right and centre.

The last major royal wedding I remember was back in '81 between Charles and Di and there were street parties everywhere.

This time, I'm indoors playing poker all day. How times have changed, eh? I probably would have been sent off to the Tower of London back in the day for such an offence!

    good luck in warsaw.

no pressure... you have nothing to prove (you're easily good enough) and nothing to lose.  how good is that?

so why not play your normal stuff.

    good luck.

Ty mate. I'll give it everything I've got. All I can hope is I don't make any mistakes, or at least big ones. The tourney I bubbled in last night was one of those examples where I don't think I played a hand badly, got my money all-in ahead and my opponent hit his draw.

As long as I have a tourney like that in Walsall, then the rest is up to the cards.

If I go out early though, or heaven forbid GO OUT FIRST, I will NEVER be allowed to forget it on the channel. In fact, it's too painful to even contemplate this possibility. Tikay would have a field day...

As long as you get your chips in at the right time Rich, what will be will be, I hope you take it down, if for no other reason than having Elvis stand in for you on the show ;)

Do I have to change the thread title then?

Coz 'Countdown to Sky Poker's invasion of Warsaw' sounds a little like we're heading back into 1939.

Except this time not on the side of the Allies...

    From another thread...

Good luck at GUKPT Rich and also the team. Ineresting to see how you all get on. Rich, who do you think will go furthest out of the Sky team and why?

Ty Doc. We have such a strong line-up that any one of us could take it down. If you were forced to put your house on it for a last-longer you'd have to go with Wayne who manages to avoid trouble-spots and consistently go deep.

But, on their day, Dan and Redmond are unstoppable. (Similar with James, but he's not playing this one). So the question is, will it be their day?

As for this month's qualifiers- SolidStan has proved he's no pushover winning his place on the team against a tough field although I have no idea what he's like live or indeed whether he's played very much offline. Scotty77 on the other hand is an aggro player, plays live regularly and if he gets chips, could be a dark horse.

I haven't got the other player names to hand. So, tough one- out that lot as I say, Wayne is most likely to avoid putting his chips at unnecessary risk but, on a hunch, I think it's Reds turn this time.

    What do you lot think?

Sorry Dylan, Michael.  We've been given guidelines that no links to websites that are direct competitors to Sky Poker and Nutz has a poker affiliate that is splashed over each of their web pages.

However, anyone with Google and a keen eye will figure it out!
