Vegas 2011

edited April 2011 in Poker Chat
Basically looking for some advice! I am planning a trip to vegas late this year / early next year! I have never been to sin city before. I have a few questions that i could do with answering.

What is the standard of play like out there?
What is the cost of living like for a few weeks out there?
When are the best months to go for soft poker?
What events should i be looking to play?

Any help will be of great use!

Thanks guys! GLGL

    Hi mate

I am off there for the third time in 5 weeks, will prob do a blog about the trip afterwards so watch this space!
The two times I have been the cash play was quite soft at Excalibur and Harrahs, I won a few tournaments at MGM Grand and O'Sheas (fun crapshoots), the deepstacks at Aria, Caesars and Venetian obviously have good players. Google AllVegasPoker for trip reports etc

It is expensive but drinks are free while you play poker so utilise that, get water from the salesmen on the bridges etc rather than shops, can eat quite cheap in buffets etc

Don't think there is a soft/non soft season, if you like tournaments and are rolled for $100 games then Aria and Caesars are best structures, rolled for $200 and play Venetian, rolled for $300 it's Bellagio

Go Downtown, Binions and Golden Nugget are cheaper to gamble in.

For a show get a ticket from Tix42Night booths

    Dave

Just come back from Vegas - it was the last stop of my honeymoon (after shopping in New York and celeb-spotting in LA).

I expected it'd be really cheap to live - it ain't!
As said, you can drink for free, but be sure to tip the waitresses. Food is quite expensive, but depending how much gambling you're planning on doing, you could end up comped. I spent maybe $700 over five days and the last two days were free! Over $60 in bar credit and two free meals at the MGM Grand. Be sure to get yourself a players card to accrue points on, every casino does one.

I don't think there is much to choose between poker rooms, they will pretty much all be an 80-20 mix of tourists and daily grinders but remember not many people will sit down without a bit of grounding in the game. It takes ten minutes to judge the grinders, the amateurs and the outright noobs, just let an orbit or two pass before getting into it! ;-)

Been 3 times and noticed its getting more expensive every year.
Basic accomodation can be found fairly cheap and the buffets are value for money.
Tip when checking in say you are there for a special occasion or have had a nightmare with delayed flights ect and see if they have any room upgrades worked for me the last twice and got upgraded to a suite
Played mostly at the Aria this time as thats where i was staying but MGM has a good set up.
Head to Freemont St for some cheaper action.Tix4tonite for show tickets get to the booth for opening time and get the pick of tickets i think they have three locations on the strip.

If you win a few quid i can reccomend Olives at the Belligo for a nice meal and drinks.
