Volume?

edited June 2011 in Poker Chat
I'm only a low volume recreational player compared to many of you, but i've spent a bit of time in the last 24 hours looking at my sharkscope figures to see where my game varies.

In the short time I've been playing I've had 2 quite decent spells followed by a confidence damaging downturn.

During both the downturns sharkscope says I've played a higher volume of poker, and I wonder if this is the cause of the problem. Do I think I'm improving and increase volume through over confidence then my game suffers because of this?

So for May at least I'm going to put some restrictions on what I play and see what happens.

I'm not going to play more than 2 nights in a row.

I'm going to cut out playing all micro stake sit & go's and occasional freeplay 'just for a bit of fun'.

And I'm going to concentrate what poker I do play closer to the top end of my brm limits.

I'd like to cut all dym's out as well, but apparently 4 out of the last 5 months I've made a respectable return playing these so might have to keep playing a few.

Hopefully this will help.

Good news - profit up 650% for May over April with the restricted volume :-)

Bad news - April's was only 23p so the difference doesn't amount to much :-(

Have enjoyed my poker through May, which has been the main bonus.

It's been good having regular nights off, knowing I'm definitely not playing on certain nights and making other plans rather than playing something cheap & simple because there's little else to do once the kids are heading for bed. After a night off I've felt fresher and looked forward to playing. I did have a little burst of playing 4 nights in a row middle of the month and by the 4th night I knew I wasn't playing as well as I could.

I did cut all the DYM's and played straight NLHE sit & go's instead. Had a rocky start losing the first 3, but then picked up 2 2nd's and 3 wins from the next 6. Most of these were only for £1 though because that's what were available on the nights I played sit & go's, so I need to be playing more of the £2 & £3 with my bankroll.

Tournaments have been a bit mixed, and for the third month in a row I've lost playing mtt's. I've enjoyed playing them, particularly the new mini ME's, and cashed 4 out of 16, best results being 12th in a mini open and 8th in a £2 Tikay. But I'm really struggling with mtt's at the moment. I can't seem to maintain concentration and discipline beyond about an hour and a half and have made some really reckless plays on too many occasions after decent starts. I've moved away from distractions to play but it's still happening and I'm going to have to find a way round this because it's the mtt's I  enjoy playing most of all. Will be aiming to play the DTD next week and see if multi-tabling helps.
