basically some people call it a merge when you valuebet thin, others call it a merge when you are pritty close to the breakeven point where it's neither a clear valuebet nor a bluff anymore.
the difference between the two, well the thinner it gets the more likely it's actually 0EV and the purpose then is only to put pressure on your opponent (out of position for example) to avoid him putting pressure on you.
