NL8 bet sizing help

I'm happy I can beat NL4 (play a bit nitty but it works) and have built up 20BI's for NL8.  I had been on this table for about 15 hands and not played a single hand yet.  Preflop had been a bit like this and think I should have popped it upto 40p pf after the minraise.  Anyway I see the flop and hit my set, there is a small bet before me and I couldn't think of what size to make it, especially since this is the first hand I was playing I didn't want to scare everyone off.  Looking at it now, I think I should make it £2ish.  Is a call bad? this may keep bailey and scouse in it and should still be able to get stacks in by river.  Thoughts please....

pre is fine imo, if you do 3bet make it bigger than 40p, but flatting is much better imo

Depends on reads but readless I prob flat flop. If you do raise 2 sounds good

pre is good you have hit your set wohoooooo

raise the flop, it's multi way so try and isolate - raise to about £1.15 or so
You don't want someone in cheap and they draw to some funky str
Plus one of these players must of caught something, pornftiites looks like he got a JQ or somthing.
SB Scouse the 3 better has checked so maybe he got big pr or AK :S

Also pre is fine, especially against the tight player opening in early position.

May I ask why would you flat in this spot, is this not risky in a multi way pot or are you just trying to get max value for your hand then your willing to give a turn card for free.

Cheers guys, the smallish flop bet threw me a bit, I flatted but this was more because I was running out of time than me being happy it was the best option the the time.

Grantorino - how much bigger pf would you make if I were to 3bet.  Suppose I 3bet 48-56p, do we fold to a 4bet?

I would be a rare situation where I 3bet 99, esp against an UTG open. If I did I prob would be against a spewbox so I prob would shove over a 4bet from opener and fold to a cold 4bet. Your 3betsizing here should be at least 0.56 if you 3bet pre here imo. I would flat against nearly all villains though

The reason I considered 3bet here is that the UTG open is only a min raise.  From what I have found at NL4, generally min raises don't mean a lot.  Also how many players do you think actually consider what position they are in at this level, its obviously in my mind but do I really need to worry thats he is UTG?

All that makes sense, and your original post shows you think about the game in the right way

The fact he is utg prob makes very little difference at this level. You are prob ahead of his range, that doesnt mean its an auto 3bet. The range he and other players call/ raise 3bets with is far more important. Also you need to take into account how hand will play out postflop, especially as you are not going to like many flops.

This. I play a bit on these tables and they are different to 4nl. Quite a few of the regs know what they are doing. My (limited) view on this is you can easily flat this on a dry board and see if he hangs himself on the turn/river. Ok he shoved with AA, happy days but i do like the flat call on this type of board. It might even get the other guy involved and increase the pot for you. Looks like you played it pretty perfect in my opinion. If you raise, thats ok too i suppose but the flat call puts the ball back in his court on the turn. Keep him making decisions!! Well played though.
