Exact same hands, winner due to flush.....Odds?

edited May 2011 in Area 51
Ok firstly im not saying the site is rigged or am annoyed at losing any hands. Just interested.

What are the odds on the two below hands happening at all? they both happened within one week of one another, i have also deffo seen one more that I wasnt involved in this month and have seen it a couple of times before.....in fact I think Don was involved in one recently with MP33.....don can you confirm?

So what are the odds of two same (well similar.....but you know what I mean) hands going up against one another, and the other winning by the flush. And has anyone else had this happen on their table recently?

Well, firstly the odds of two players getting jacks- 1 is 1/220 (I think, correct me if I'm wrong), and after that happening, the odds of a second player getting that hand is 1/1352. Together we have odds of 1/297440 of two players being dealt the same exact pocket pair, jacks in this case (1/22880 for any random identical pocket pair)

That's heads up- the odds are considerably smaller in ring games, though still considerable. If I've done my maths correct.

You have around a 1/53 chance of hitting a flush with unsuited cards by the river, and you each have that chance- so around 1/26 that a player wins by flush.

So if you're after the odds of heads up, two players being dealt identical pairs and one of them winning via flush- I believe it's 1/594880. Odds for AK is considerably lower, though still quite outrageous. The main part is getting 2 players to have the same hand in the first place, having 6 players seated does increase the chances a lot.
