weekly ticket to ride tourney - (SNG idea)

edited May 2011 in Poker Chat
6 seater SnG table (call it say 'ticket to ride' table) usual top 2 paid, but the winner (1st place)also gets a ticket, win 10 tickets during the week for entry to the weekly ticket to ride tourney.

Have the cost at £2.25, (the same price as the dym tables)winner £9, r/up £3,(the same winnings as the standard 6 seater) and sky put 5p / player from the rake (30p) per table into the weekly tourney prizefund.

This would cost sky nothing in terms of monetary prizes to run, it would encourage more players to play sng's, and the weekly tourney could end up with a huge pot.

Having thought of this idea and posting immediately after, i rushed through the OP so i think i will just try to explain my thinking a bit clearer with a couple of points :-

    1) If the ticket to ride tourney is stickied in the MTT section all week it would encourage players who primarily play tournaments to visit the STT lobby

    2) By having the tournament in the mtt section, it would encourage the players that primarily play stt a visit to the mtt lobby

    3) Even if it takes a player 60 games to get the tickets, the cost would only be £3 (60 x 5p) for some it would be considerably less! Also the players will obviously be collecting their £9 winnings with each ticket accumulated (£90)

    4) The only cost to sky would be the laying on of the weekly tourney which they would not make money on (but would during the qualifiers)

    5) The players that qualify get entered into a rake free tournament, if you qualify in say 20 -30 tries and another player 40-50 then obviously you would get into the tourney cheaper, also some may not wish to get the 10 bonus tickets, so thats more free prize money in the pot.

    6) I know i could say lets do a tourney and sky could give a certain monetary freeroll and extra this and that, but im trying to be realistic and fair to sky and the players, if sky don't make money on a tourney, they aint gonna keep running it, and tbf all sng ideas are going to cost some sort of entrance fee.

Sounds like a very well thought out idea. I would give them a go! Could there be any half point kind of system for 2nd place? As i don't really play "straight up, top 2 get paid" SNGs, i know i would struggle to win 10 in a week.

The format as it is, with 1 ticket for the winner has a transfer value of 30p, making a £3 transfer value for the prize fund for the 10 tickets, if we allowed 1/2 a ticket for second place it would reduce the tournament prize value by 1/3. Although you don't usually play these pay 1-2 format SnG's the problem with DYM is that the tournament ceases when there are three left, also the rake for these is £2 +25p so to make this work would require £2 +30p which is getting into the bounty hunter rake territory. You say you would struggle to win 10 in a week, i say don't put yourself down! you only need to finish 1st once on 4 of the days, and twice on 3 of the days to qualify, even the average player should come 1st at least 1 in 6 times, play 240 of these games per month which is an average of 8 games a day and it would almost certainly be enough to qualify for all 4 weekly tournies, but in reality it would certainly be a lot less for a lot of the players. I hope it would be that any 'spare' tickets can be brought forward to the next week, so if you win 12 one week, then you only need 8 the next.
