bank roll

edited May 2011 in Poker Chat
HI Tikay ,

i have recently started playing cash games much more than tournaments, I deposited £40 a week ago with a view to be able to buy in to th 2p 4p cash games 10 times if things went horribly wrong!!!.
I played this for a night and was only a few quid up so i moved up the tables and now i am playing 10p/20p blinds with a fair bit of success i now have near on £100.
My question is though should i stck to my rule of only playing blind limits on tables i can buy in up to 10 times or play on slightly higher tables all the time i am winning???

thanks

    10 buyins at 20nl is £200.

If you feel confident in doing what you're doing now then keep at it, but it's risky to say the least. You can easily have a bad few days and lose 10 buyins so you're going to have to know when to drop back down.

I'd rather stick with only moving up when i've got 30 buyins.

yeh i agree as you want more than 10 buy ins just incase there is a mc table at 20nl (buy in 40 )

Not only is your bankroll not big enough, but you haven't been winning for long enough.

Last week you deposited 40, now you have 100, which is a solid start, but over a 1 week period it's possible that you could have just been lucky, or had the run of the cards.

Beat the level you are at consistantly over a 6 week period, build your bankroll up to 30/40 buy ins at the level you are at, then start having a go at the next level.

There's no rush, the next level aint going anywhere !!

a few months back i deposited 25 quid and in the space of 4 days and running like god i had 320 in my account...so i started playing a level far to big with players far to good ... within 3 hours i had nothing left....build and move up very very slowly

This is seriously a great post along with Jesusdogs story. Speak to anyone who has played for a long time like Tikay, Thewy, Paul Jackson et al and they will more than likely know tons more players who didn't stick to BR management and went broke as opposed to those who grinded it at lower levels, stayed safe within their means & learned their trade well before moving up.

I would err on the side of caution, boring as it may seem but I think you need about 50,000 hands behind you and be in profit before you even think about moving up a level imo. So, look at what you have in your BR. look at how much those hands would cost you, and go from there.

There will always be another game, another hand, you want to play every hand with the best of your ability and not worry about the outcome should it go wrong. GL, Shaz
