Final table strategy

edited May 2011 in Poker Chat

Twice in the last week I have got to the final table of the Mini 1k open with decent chip stack, only to go out early in 5th then 6th. Both ccasions I shoved twice and lost. What is your best advice how to approach the final table to maximize prize money.
Thanks, Bandit66 ( been playing a couple of months)

Huely depends on your feel for opponents and accepted pre flop raise, that gets respect.  With 5/6 players left I'm going to be very hesitant to get my stack in if I'm sat healthy.

I dont know If you mean your 3 bet jamming or open jamming, but it really does just come down to stack size.  Hopefully the cream of the tournament is sat with you so you shouldnt have to fade to many curveballs with preemy's.

I like a 2.2x B raise, just leaves so much ammunition for post flop play.  But if your sat 15xB Nowt wrong with open Jamming/3 bet jamming your premium hands.  Can you give your exit hands/stack size?

As above  go for the win, dont be afraid to go with the chip leader if you have good reads. Be aware who is trying to ladder up and nitted up,generally people wont be as aggressive so i think plan A is always get aggressive, dont limp min raise or 2.2 should be enough.

If you have a reasonable stack step away from the action a bit wait for good hands. Tourneys can change over a short number of hands the main thing is to get top 3 or so where the money is. As stated above the final table should be filled with the best players in the tourney but also may have some lucky ones.

Basically take it as it comes on the final table unless you are getting really shorted.

Well that work for me anyways

Dont do this, if you have a reasonable stack aggro it up unless the other players make you do otherwise

dont settle for anything less than 1st place.
you have only been playing a couple of months and making final tables so the more you go for the win the quicker you will get one.
one 1st place is usually worth more than 4 or 5 5th places so even if you lose ouy 2 or three tie on ft you will still be well ahead when you get that 1st place.

I think an argument can be made strongly for both. Pummel it home, or let the shorter stacks scrap it out for awhile.

One of your aggression people got hold of Darvin Moon in the break and look at how that nearly worked out for the nit douche :p

haha at the darvin moon comment.

I think it has to be based on the table. If im on a FT with players such as MickJenn, Wacko90 and Haysie im certainly not gna be aggressive.

    Otherwise. Aggression ftw.

I always find this is a great strategy for final tables.

Make sure you're the last one to lose your chips ;o)
