help with omaha

this is the first time i have ever played omaha ever. I would like to have reads but i really unsure about what im doing. After briefly reading how to play a decide to start with a £3 DYM and get this hand. I think it might be a good one to raise with as i have 2 suites only 1 set of connected cards and one gapped. Now i think i have flopped a monster draw with a up and down straight and a flush draw. have i played this ok or completely wrong

and to add a 2nd am i actually holding a big hand here and if so what is the villain thinking here by calling is he also holding a big hand or just calling as he has no fold equity

Omaha is a pure flop game, with more skill and more luck than NLHE

Math is mainly your strongest ally here, but your starting hand requirements are drastically altered.  Hand strehgth is also very debatable.

Sammy Farha being the ranking NLOH player, you see how this is reflected in his NLHE game.

Both posted hands are far too weak to raise IMO

hand 1) pre call dont raise , on the flop check call is ok as your out of position, you want to check when your drawing only bet when in position

In Omaha you're never far ahead pre-flop. It's rarely worth a raise pre.

AdKdAsKs v 247T rainbow is 70/30
Compare this with
KdKs v Kh 2d in Hold 'Em, where it's 95/5
These are about the MAXIMUM swings in odds you're going to get. Rarely will you ever be more than 60/40.

And if you're going to draw, make sure you're drawing to the nuts. Bin all flush and straight draws on paired boards.
And don't play any hands with 'danglers' - loose cards that don't work with others, the 6 in the KKJ6 hand above. If that 6 was any other apart from the spade, it's worth playing.

Generally, I like to keep pots quite small to give the odds time to pan out. It's not like Hold 'Em where you tend to look for a killer blow, more a steady succession of playing 55/45 hands and just betting enough so they don't have the odds to call, but are tempted to anyway.

The variance is massive, but if you master it there's a lot of money to be won as most people (me included) have only a superficial knowledge of the game. Hold 'Em is drying up as there are too any good players who've mostly got it licked. In a few years time, everyone will be playing Omaha and there's an opportunity there if you can grasp it. In my opinion, Hold 'Em is going to go the way of 5 card stud - a game that too many have mastered for anyone to have a real edge.

hand 1, fold pre, its junk and your oop.  its much better to be double suited to the nuts. Also its better to have 4 cards that work together like 810jq

cheers for all this, i like the attached file dohhh it is really helpfull, already my game has improved as im no longer playing it like a game of holdem all i need to do now is figure the maths side of things a little quicker and i should be set.

  In essence the way to judge a starting hand is to simply count the number of nut drawing hands you are playing.The main thing is because the more good hands you are playing the more chance you have of hitting the flop and therefore winning the hand. In your first hand you only have 2 KQ and 63 which means of the 6 possible hands you are realistically only playing 2 which makes this a weak hand. So you need to judge hands on this basis and not how strong the draws/hands are. for example AA95 rainbow is a very weak hand with only 1 nut drawing hand yet people will frequently stack off with these hands even when no ace appears on the board. My personal favourite starting hand is TJQK ds. Which has all 6 hands drawing to the nuts and is a perfect hand to be playing.

  As far as preflop raising is concerned i am fully in favour of it. This is the opportunity to get rid of the any 4 card merchants and begin to narrow down the ranges of opponents. But when you miss the flop totally you need to be able to lay it down with minimum loss but if you hit you can then make it a pot well worth winning.

this does help, like iv said im still learning but i think im learning quickly as im on quite a run on the micro stakes DYM's at the mo in comparison to this morning and last night. The whole thing just seems to be about playing the nuts and try to play cards that are close together such as 2345 etc. After putting the 2nd hand up there and then playing a bounty hunter sng. I realise that high pocket cards are now rubbish as most of the time your just relying on them whereas your opponent has 4 cards to make a hand out of right. I have no idea if that AA95 you put was coincidental but this is the result of me playing it after taking 3 people out already.
