Survivor Overlay Again?

edited July 2011 in Poker Chat

Last week we had a big overlay in the Survivor Final of £644.

As things stand now in the Friday semi-final:

Status - RegisteringStart Date/Time - 19:30 - 03 JunCurrent Prize Pool - £736.00

Remember the guarantee is £2,500 for the final!

Obviously this will build if more people enter but...

...will there be an even bigger overlay this week?

Remember, you can still register and the fee is zero!

Thanks

Update as it stands right now.

    14 registered at £64 = £896

    Guarantee = £2,500

    Current overlay = £2,500 - £896 = £1604

At the moment, it pays first three as follows:

    1st£1,2502nd£7503rd£500
    Could be great value available!

This will always have a big overlay in its current format. You need to generate £417 each night to cover the guarantee, and when you get to the thursday (£16) and beyond, you are never going to reach the overlay cut off point. However - the biggest problem you have to contend with, and for the life of me i can't work out why someone in skypoker didn't realise this when formulating the qualifying structure, is that players need to have no life outside of poker to participate because entrants have to commit on everyday of the week, the only way around this is to pay the larger buy-ins in the latter stages, and not enough players are willing to do this. This is a fantastic tournament, it was just ill conceived in the structure, a bit of tweaking is all that is required. My idea if it was me running this and losing money every week would be to have 2 qualifying groups. Group 1 to run Sun, Tues, Thurs @£1,£2,£4 and group 2 to run Mon, Wed,Fri @ £1,£2,£4. (notice alternative nights) Have the final £8. This will enable many more players to compete during the week and more players paying the direct buy -in. Please could you try something like this as an alternative before cancelling this tourney, as im sure will happen with the current format as this could be a really good tourney

It's just a 2.5k gtd, £64 buy in MTT with posh satellites.

Theres no reason why it shouldn't hit its GTD PP just with direct buy ins alone.

Yeh, but i dont reckon you would get 40 people paying direct for a £2.5k tourney, there is better value in the main event £22 for £5k! If you look at the other big buy-in tourneys they struggle to get the numbers, the only one that doesnt is the £55 primo but that has 5 times the guarantee. The playing numbers are simply not here ATM to get enough of the players paying £64.

Isn't it pretty much on par with the sky roller? 5k gtd for 100?, 2.5k gtd for 64....they aren't that far apart in terms of value for money.

Add in the fact that there are 14/15 weaker players who have satellited in for as little as a quid, and a V top heavy prizepool, and it starts to become an attractive tourny for the big guns!

either way I'm in tonight so I hope they all ignore it !! :D

As loonytoons said you have to be available everynight or it just becomes a normal MTT with a £64 buy in

I,ve had to miss 2 nights of going out this week, which I can,t do every week

As its called "Survivor" its most likely now that the winner will come from someone buying in directly tonight which makes a bit of a mockery of the title - I think there should be a least a buy in fee (10%) for anyone buying directly into final

I like the concept of this Tournament but agree i needs some tweaking

i would love to do the survivor thing, but 2 reasons put me off.
    1. i cant guarantee i can play everynight at the same time.

    2. i'd be worried if i did miraclerously get to the final i'd feel all my hard work is going to be undone by a amazing player. i dont think you should be able to buy in direct after a few days. i dont mind ppl have second chances, but do any of the 'sky rollers' with a big bankroll even play any of the first 3 days. and like mp said it takes the whole 'survivor' thing out of it.

i like the idea but it needs work on it

I wondered why you were less than happy, I just looked at the leaderboard.

And the answer is................................yes, another big overlay this week.

Survivor doesn't seem to be catching on and is costing Sky a lot of money. Although I'm not usually the pessimistic type I wouldn't be surprised if they slash the guarantee next week, or even scrap the tournament completely.

Guarantee will drop again soon i reckon, they really need to sort out the everyday thing to make it a success, i dont play it because im out thursdays, im sure many are like that.

yup, i personally think the first way they ran it worked much better, i know it went on a little but its easier to stay in say every monday for a few weeks than it is 7 days in a row
  • edited June 2011

yeah for reasons listed above, I dont see this game lasting much longer.

It is a shame because the idea is good, but skypoker simply dont have the player numbers, being uk only, to get enough ppl playing every day

21 direct buy-ins tonight so the guarantee of £2000 was beaten with a total of 34 runners.
  • edited July 2011
Massive overlay this week with only 19 runners.

    19 x £64 = £1,216

    Guarantee = £2,000

Overlay = £784, or 39% of the prize pool

    Will Survivor itself survive?

Not unless they sort out the ''must play everyday'' qualifying format (unless you want to pay big bucks)
