strategy!= bad beats

i dont think very much can be learnt from people posting hands were they got it in good and were sucked out on, if you got it in good then it was probably the right play. Of course there are exceptions but in general more interesting hands might be ones where you were forced to make a difficult fold or maybe had trouble figuring out your opponents range in a certain spot.

Anyway onto the hand, played at 40nl....

SB:    £126.78
BB:    £23.40
UTG:  £33.00
MP:    £12.00
CO:    £14.10
Hero(BTN):   £61.31

Pre-Flop: (£0.60) Hero is BTN with As Ah
UTG folds, MP folds, CO calls £0.40, Hero raises to £1.60, SB calls, BB calls, CO calls

Flop: (£6.40) 10s 2h Kc  (4 players)
SB checks, BB, checks, CO checks, Hero bets £4.00, SB calls, BB folds, CO folds

Turn: (£14.40) 9c (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets £9.20, SB calls

River: (£32.80) 4d (2 players)
SB bets £41.20, Hero???

Villain has been running over the table somewhat and has built up a decent stack, is the overbet taking me to valuetown or more likely to be a bluff? what hand do you put villain on?

TBH id hate to do it, but id have to fold here... At the end of the day, you only have a Pair... Your initial raise is standard from the button 3x raise plus 1 for every limper, so a LAG player will show that no respect.. There is no flush draw on flop so you cant put them on that, tey may again be calling to see if you show weaknes, which you dont. by the time you bet £9.20 on a 20p/40p table and he calls he has something big!! im thinking possibly J,Q which is possible looking back through the hand... i think has AT LEAST got to have 2 pair here, or he is slow playing a set etc.. you have put in around £15 here with 45 behind so you are in no way commited, Personally i grudgingly fold AA and if he continues to play crazy then get it back later on

Can't see him bluffing here, unless he had AQ/AJ but I think they 3bet that PF.

He is turning all 1pr hands in his range into a bluff.  Very weird play with KQ/KJ.  Can't see him turning up with either of these.

    I sigh and fold.

Quick question offshoot - did you notice his hands which went to showdown? You say he's running over the table, but is he doing with total junk or semi-reasonable hands? All adds to the picture. ;)

In Response to strategy!= bad beats:
I'm just a newbie but K9 if it was K10 he would raise your £4
Of course its probably a bluff but I would fold
I suppose thats why i only ever break even not win loads I get caught like that often.

hands where he stacked opponents. AK />AQ, QQ>A5 on 985 flop and AT>86 when hit T on the turn. So getting it in with good hands.

Results: i was villain in this hand and i had QcTc. I figured he had one pair like KQ or AK and would fold to my river overbet cos it looks like QJ. He called. I guess its dumb to expect people to fold top pair at thiese limits though.

i actually think c/raising turn is a much better line to take when i look back at it.
