A rant against the poker donkeys

edited June 2011 in Poker Chat
The last week or 2 I have noticed more and more players playing loose than a loose thing from planet loose. They seem prepared to call a raise with anything, even call an allin and don't appear to have a fold button. Tonight I got knocked out of the £150 deepstack after about half an hour. I'd sat quiet for the first couple of levels and the this happens. Hand before mine villain calls an allin with A 6 off. he loses hand but i have my notes now. Next hand I get AQ off and raise 4x. Villain shoves allin and I call , he turns over K 7 off and spikes the King on river. Thats me down 4500 chips. This seems to have happened about 3 times in the last week or so.It's all very well the likes of the analysts saying I would win in the long run, it doesn't help when thats another tourney I'm out of. Last nights DS was just as crazy with players on my table constantly going all in with 30/40/50 x BBs.This has seriously tilted me tonight so what can I do to counter this crazy play  and how do you deal with it?

you had 4500k chips left in a deepstack after a couple of levels so he hardly crippled you?.....seems he tilted you by calling and winning with an inferior hand?
  • edited June 2011
No I lost 4500 and was down to about 600. It's not just that hand it seems to be a regular pattern lately.
    Shipdchips I like your solution!

The analists always say u want em to call

    REALLY?

AA vs any u want a call right - (except deepie on monday at Lv2 (BB is 40) whare we get it allin pre - he show 42 of clubs??? - flop 442!)

AA vs 88 & QJ & k7 & 33 & KJ (happened about 2 weeks ago - in a deepie all 6 allin pre) are your odds of winning the hand & staying in the tourney better than 50%?

I Know the reply that if u win u get a hugh stack - SO WHAT? u lose it later to a bod calling ur AK/AQ etc raises with J7 & binking a 7 & never folding regardless of betting action.

    OP has my sympathies

Thanks Ploppy. I know we talked about it the other night and you were saying the same. My original post wasn't just about tonight but how things seem to be changing generally. I know I'm not the only one who has noticed

Seen some unbelievable scenes in 11-22pound DYM's as of late, people just don't seem to care.

OFC you want a call AA v 24 etc just bad luck if you dont win the hand or maybe you played it bad ? could be either

reverse it and you wouldnt be thinking oh they got Aces they never win so im gonna call

Thats poker, would be a boring game if the best hand won all of the time.

If I raise with AQ in a deepstack and get 3 bet shoved I would consider folding, I don't want to risk 4500 chips which is probably about 55 or 65 BB deep with A high in which I am at best a 60/40 fave but could well be up against AA KK  QQ or AK

I don't think you need to take a race so early

Dave thats a fair point about folding and I will admit that it never crossed my mind to fold. Maybe that's a shortcoming in my game. I knew he was capable of shoving with rubbish and was 100% sure he was at it. Could you fold in that situation? There seems to be an increase in the number of players whose range is any 2 cards. And like ploppy says calling an allin with 4 2 has been happening . Ive been K.O'd twice by calls of 4 2 off when I have had to shove all in with decent hands in the later stages.

Agree for me its always a Friday night cant seem to win a thing no matter how much i raise i get called all the way to the river and yes there it is the flush card. The only thing i can think of is play the same as them. so next friday i will give it a try. GL M8t

Dunno if I could fold, it's easy to say on forum but we all know with 15 seconds to act and a big hand in front of us! Saw it live a few times last night, somebody put QQ down to a 3 bet shove and a call, 3 bet was from K8 flop was K88 !

You are a good player and good at deepstacks so I would keep at it, you will win over time and get the odd suck out.

People who want a less volatile game should play something like omaha hi lo or 2-7 tripple draw. Thatz just a game of cards with not much bluffing reading opponents or skill involved. It's also very boring but as you dont like the excitement and volatility that comes with no limit you might enjoy it.

Assuming I don't like the excitement or volatility of Holdem is wrong. What I'm not keen on is people reducing it to the level of a  c r a p shoot. A prime example was tonight's 9-15 DS. Players going all in at the first level and risking their stack for 30 chips cannot possibly be seen as good play. But people have paid their money and are entitled to do what they want with their chips. It's just not the way I play. I think I have said enough about it now and will carry on playinging cos I love the game and especially playing on this site. See you in the Deepstacks.
