I've registered but i suck should be fun, fwiw im playing both DTD tonight and this may even hit cash with ya too if i really want to lose some money ;)

i think it will put a few regs of including PLO in + its 3.30 and highest buy in most of the players play is up to £2.20 so i dont think its going to happen. wouldn't bother me either way

Good luck to everyone taking part in this!

Omaha is great fun and the prizes are well worth winning.

it does seem a real pity that this brilliant idea is being staged up against the most popular regular competition on sky poker. if only it had replaced your other comp on a tuesday james (where next to nothing is happening) i am sure you would have a massive field. i am thinking about this but the maximum i cam do is the tourney because playing omaha cash whilst trying to balance 2 deep stacks and a totty would blow my mind and cetainly would not be enjoyable. with both comps going for the same prize (the sky roller golden ticket) i think people will chose one or the other and not both. a last plea to consider achange of evening before its too late.

The biggest forum/team event of the week is the DTD on Monday's. I like Omaha and would be interested in the Omaha league but for me the DTD comes first.

It's a bit odd having these clashing on the same night - there are 5 nights excluding weekends and it seems to me that all it will do is divide the numbers between the two as most people can't or wont mix Omaha and Holdem on so many tables. A lot of players play the 3 DTD games and the ME and the mini ME and the TSP Classic. To add Omaha into the mix is just too much IMO.

I personally feel that the DTD should be left as it is. It's a successful formula that is still increasing in numbers every week.

I don't want to throw a spanner in the works, it's just a shame you picked DTD night.

Lets be fair to James here, Monday nights are the regular PTP nights for James, he has many other committments and Sky are lucky to be able to secure him for Monday nights, James has done the PTP on Mondays for a good year now, ofc his last league was run on a Tuesday but that was a temporary change.

James is always looking to increase Omaha traffic on the site, he always makes an effort to keep his PTP shifts fun and fresh, it is a shame this clashes with DTD but I intend to play the 1910 Omaha and sit out the start of the DTD deepstacks which imo is a pretty good tactic anyway.

If multi-tabling allows I can fire open the cash tables later on as i fully expect to donk off some of the tournaments by then.

As DTD is low buy in, there are non Omaha players that play in that so although the idea of the 1910 Omaha is a good one, I agree the DTD needs left as it is.

James has also supported DTD on his Monday PTP nights in the past and will continue to do so, the fact Tikay and James played in DTD events and plugged them on the TV show has contributed to the popularity of the DTD forum game.

I wasn't being critical of James.

The fact is it clashes with the DTD and that's a shame. The DTD is forum inspired and run by the members, who do a fantastic job of it. IMO nothing should be done to dilute what is THE team event of the week - every week.

I would of loved to have taken part but dtd comes first.
Good luck to all who enter.

Was just reading through this thread and a thought came to mind which would help promote competitions like this and omaha in general.

It would be great if there were a dedicated show maybe for only about an hour each week (with about 1 in 3 or 4 being PLO8) which would run through some actual omaha hands that have been played and allow the experts to comment on all aspects of the hand. From starting hands to playing draws/made hands. This would give people of all skill levls insights into the game and allow for improvement and therefore more enjoyment.

There are naturally a few drawbacks.Like it has been said that you do not have the software to show the hands but this could be easily replaced with showing actual cards instead. And because there are always more hands and more draws etc a lot fewer hands could be discussed than in NLHE. But i think overall having the real hands shown and discussed in the same way as the NLHE would help to bring the game to a wider audience and increase its flow on the site.

Hopefully this is considered to be a worthwhile idea and gets at least the attention of the programmers.I leave you in hope.  Talon

I would have given PLO a go, but as it clashes with DTD I'm afraid that this is one of James excellent competitions that I won't be entering.
  • edited July 2011

I will give this a try and will probably adopt Solarcarros approach of sitting out in deepy and survivor. But realistically i dont expect to be sat out for long LOL.
  • edited July 2011

I would definately have played in this if it didn't clash with DTD but unfortunately three tables is the maximum my old brainbox can cope with.

I like the idea of changeing one of the DTD games for the PLO, but I suspect not too many others would be so keen and it would be unfair to impose such a change on an established and much loved format.

Hope that you manage to get a good turn out for the tourney though and might drop by the cash tables later.

To be honest i think that if sky are dishing out prizes, for free,we should all say thank you...

Just catching up with all the posts from the last 12 hours...

Dave's right when he says that Monday has, traditionally, been my PTP night. I've run several successful promotions on Monday evenings, including the OmaHartigan League and the All-Rounders' League.

Yes, I'm fully aware that the Forum DTD runs on a Monday. I'm a fig fan of this competition: Chris and Michael do a fantastic job - and I join in whenever I can. This month, however, my mission is Omaha. And I thought it would be fun to create a mini-league in a bid to inspire more players to enter the 19:10 tournament and drop in on the PLO/PLO8 cash tables.

I should point out that the scoring in this new league is, primarily, based on cash play. So, if you're put-off by the thought of playing more than three MTTs at once, there'll be plenty of opportunity to join in later in the evening, once you've exited the DTD events!

Ultimately, this is about choice. I think it's great that there's an ever-increasing number of promotions on Sky Poker, all offering brilliant prizes. Choice is a good thing, no? In this instance, you can choose to play in one, both or neither of these competitions.

Finally, I don't expect The Monday Night Omaha Club to draw huge numbers. But - think about it - if there aren't many players, your chances of winning the £220 Sunday Roller seat will be really good!!! ;)

  • edited July 2011
As has been said elsewhere on this thread, and rightly so James has been a supporter of DTD on numerous occasions, and along with Tikay, have gone above and beyond in helping to promote what is essentially a fun filled low buy in forum  comp.
my personal point of view for what it is worth is that, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

as always James' PTP comps are fantastic value and entertainment and i hope that this too will be.

In Response to Re: Sunday Roller, Sky Roller & Primo entries to be won!:
Following on from loony's post, a couple of points from me. IF this was just a simple one tournament League, you would IMO get many runners. As you are mixing up tournament/cash, I think the numbers may be reduced greatly (not everyone plays both formats). Then you will be restricting the numbers able to play cash  due to the normal suspects *cough* TommyD, Machka, Greghogg *cough* hogging the table seats. I realise this is your club but may I suggest that you  possibly have two competitions running side by side....one based on a League Tournament results table, the other on just cash results. This all depends on if you are trying to attract new players into Omaha or just setting up a private club for your regular Omaha players. Just my observations James and I hope you can reply when you can. Cheers, Alan

I found that a little rude TBH Maxy.  I'm going to do what I was always going to do, play for the max two hours on one table and then leave that table unless there is already 1 spare seat.  If that seat fills I will leave.  I don't think I've ever done something in a competition to hinder anyone else's chances and I'm not going to start now.

    The Club is...OPEN!

And there are 42 runners in the 19:10 tournament.  That's 42 players who've just earned 5 league points.

With all due respect Tommy, that is my point and you have reiterated it above, have you not?

If you and say 3/4 others all do the same as what you are suggesting you will be doing, will that not hinder others wanting to sit down and play cash on these tables to gain points?

I could be missing your point here, but I was certainly not intentionally being rude. I was just stating the fact that this would not be a level playing field for ALL competitors IMHO.

I will not be participating but I stand by my view. Good luck anyway to you and everyone else playing in this.

    no-one is hindering anyone Alan.

everyone has an equal chance to sit for whatever time they wish. The early bird catches the worm though innit.

This being said, I would never intentionally "hogg" a seat to the detremant of others though, and neither would Tommy. In fact both of us in the past have stood when we reailsed there were others waiting to play on these
forum cash tables. So i think you have the wrong impression!

Sorry Alan, from the post I took 'hogging' to mean people would double table the whole evening, and not just play to the max and then let others sit.  Therefore I apologise and take back what I had said.

However I don't see much of a problem if people just play to the max and then allow others in.  The demand, as judged by the MTT, is not huge, certainly no where near the DTD.  With normally 10 seats free I think everyone interested will have a fair crack of the whip.

    VERY IMPORTANT:

Please remember that I won't log your time at the cash tables unless you ask me to!

  • edited July 2011
I'm out of the tournament (well done, loonytoons), so have opened a second cash table...

    Madeley - 5p/10p PLO.
  • edited July 2011
    I've left Lewisham and Madeley.

I'll open two new tables shortly.

    Stand by for details...

(By the way, for entering the 19:10 tournament, eliminating me and making the final table, loonytoons earned a total of 25 points!)

  • edited July 2011
    OK, here we go...

    Littlehampton - 10p/20p PLO.

    Yvonne - 5p/10p PLO8.

  • edited July 2011
Apologies for the early finish, but I've been dogged by technical issues all evening. Grrrrrr!

I'm about to publish the latest rankings. The first column ("T") records the number of points earned in the tournament, while the second ("C") refers to points earned at the cash tables.

(Remember: you only earn points at the cash tables if you actively ask me to track your play!)

So, here are the scores on the doors after Week 1 (04/07/2011)...
