Call or Fold... Got to make a play soon

DYM
Having less than 5 bigs and on the button I feel D will go all in with a very wide range including small pairs and A rag. so feel I may well have around 50% and the opportunity was there to take. I know I could fold and keep waiting for a better spot but I'm the short and this spot seemed to be worth a go as likely he would play a strong hand more passively by enticing someone to come over the top if limping or min raising.

my favorite hand, i shove every time
  • edited July 2011
    easy fold
you want to be the shover not the caller in a DYM
why would you want to call off with 9 high
i'd prefer shoving with 3 high the next hand, anything but calling off with a v.weak hand

Gamble if you want if your playing for fun, but if you want to improve your game and win overall at dyms more then

NEVER EVER EVER CALL OFF YOUR CHIPS WITH 9 HIGH. AND GET YOUR CHIPS IN FIRST!!

    Fold lolz.

Also how is calling with bad hands and losing money over time fun ?
  • edited July 2011
This is horrific in a dym.

If it was a normal tourny, and you were in either the sb or the bb (had chips invested) I could gamble in a situation like this though, and it's definitely enough to shove with if the pot is un-opened.

It's better to shove with 72o than call off with 9 high though.

Overwhelmingly a fold then ... Even though I was short and I figured I could well be a coin flip.

I understand that shoving rather than calling in these situations is the better option but with the blind coming round I can shove with air picking up the blinds and staying alive for a round. So often this only prolongs the agony of going out. If I'm not short I'm folding for sure. But shorts are under so much pressure in DYM when the blinds are raised.

Any how .. Here's how it played out ... Not being results orientated but my read was good and it was a coin flip.

as already discussed, and putting it bluntly, this call is shocking.

there is no way u can have a read of him havin a small pair, and even if he shows u 44 ur hand is still a fold

i reckon u prob av 35-40% equity vs his range, which obv makes this a pretty big losin play in the long run
  • edited July 2011
He aint playing a big hand like that so if i'm live when the cards go over i'll take my chance. I have pretty good equity against the range i put him on, which could also have been air so in these circumstances I'll take my chance.

Shoving with air myself may not be great either so gotta do something unless keep folding and hope others bust out.

I'd had such a bad beat with AA against K4 hitting 44 that put me in this position.

What range are you putting him on with his shove?
  • edited July 2011

The thing is his range doesn't matter he could do this with 10 2 o/s this just isn't a call. I understand how frustarating it is when you need a double up but this isn't the right spot

First of all I think this is a clear fold in a dym, and shoving any 2 is better than calling with this

But, purely in terms of chip EV, he needs just under 42% equity to make the call

He has 49% against a random hand

Against 22+,Ax,Kx, any broadway he has 40%

Against a tighter range of 22+, Ax, KJ+ he has 39%

Now obv your chip EV isnt your real consideration here, and in a dym its a clear fold
