After all the underhand tactics coming from the news of the world do you still have faith in sky??

edited July 2011 in Poker Chat
Just wanting to know how comfortable everyone is playing here since all the revelations about Rupert Murdock and the news of the world!

How much control of sky does he have right now?

I am not that bothered about the scandals but I wonder if any of you have any issues now??

NO! - Not unless he's the dealer.

Seriously though - People worry a little too much.

He is one man alone. I'm pretty sure he doesn't directly tell people within his business how to get the news. They do have a mind of their own, so they only have themselves to blame if they are guilty of breaking the law.

Frankly its about time the media had a bit of a shake up. They posess far too much power and have far too much influence on the politics of this country.

They should stick to what they are paid for - Reporting the news - not making it.

But when it comes to the poker on this site - I don't think we need to worry too much.

None at all, personally i think they are all at it to a degree, have been and always will, politicians drip feed leaks, and Gordon Brown and Alister Campbell were the worst, the police comissioners all playing politics instead of fighting crime eg Lord Blair ex metropolitan police commissioner, its all just a sideshow of no relevence or importance to almost anyone in the uk. I feel for the ''general public'' victims but 55 full time police looking into this for the next year, then a full public enquirery costing millions of quid where Lawyers will be able to set off into the sunset with wads of our cash, and what will it achieve? Maybe a couple of people get jailed, recommendations will be made and forgotten about and we will all move onto the next story. What will it mean for 99.9999% of us? Absolutely nothing, apart from a huge bill. This country has bigger problems than this to worry about.

I don't think you can put the NOTW on the same level as Sky poker or Sky tv. For me the NOTW was bottom of the pile where the press is concerned and well worth it's demise. News Corp owns less than 40% of Sky tv and I'm quite happy with that. I don't think we have anything to worry about on here.

Aside from the fact that I never knew the Sunday Sport was still going, but yes it is lower. I don't think the Sport resorted to the tactics of the NOTW to get a story. Everyone knows they just made things up at random.

Absolutely outrageous - I'll not stand for that!

    Bus Found On Moon
    Child Turned Into Fish-Finger

    Made up at random?....

As long as I keep hitting quads I'll stay - take note Murdoch.

Seriously though who would play on a US based site - Full Tilt has shut down, at least for now, and my cashout from UB is taking a lifetime so I'm not hopeful of that happening either.

I dont fully see how its connected in any way other than a generalised lack of confidence in those that conduct major business around us.

People at top acting in underhand ways to get job done, maximising their business?  Shocker.  It is what it is.

    zero worries at all.

don't believe what you read by some mental person who makes up constant lies on facebook.

i absolutely trust the people who run Skypoker but i have never trusted the Murdochs ( or the other super rich). they are solely interested in profit - as james has already said - that is the meaure of success and are ruthless in getting it.

Everyone knows by now the situation in America re: online poker - i.e. it is an offence in American law for an American to run or profit from online gambling. yet Sky runs this site and if Rupert Murdoch - living in America - bought out BSkyB he would be in breach of that law because of Sky poker et.al. And that could lead to all sorts of problems for us.

Remember the bad apples rise to the top of the barrel but it's the one's underneath that suffer like the NOW employees.

Do I trust and have faith in SkyPoker after this?  100% yes I do.

Will I keep playing here after the revelations regarding News Corps?  Under consideration.  I know they do not have a controlling interesting in Sky and have pulled out (for now) of the take over deal.  However unless someone can show me I'm wrong, a percentage of the rake will go to them as a significant shareholder.  I tweeted that I'm waiting to see how they respond to the allegations and if the allegations are proven to be true before making a decision.  I'm still in that mindset.
