SKY ME Take your Seat

edited July 2011 in Poker Chat
Hi Poker Peeps.

With all the excitement and chit chat of SPT Cardiff, SPT Grand Final at DTD and the GUKPT and various bits and bobs flying around, it got me thinking...............(Yes I know - It Hurts)

Most live MTT events i've been to are 9 handed, yet all our ME's (Main Events) at 8.00pm on Sky Poker are 6 handed. Would it be possible or would anyone be interested in a Main Event at 8pm once a week being 9 handed?

Open for discussion...........What do you think?

Also......Any ideas what it could be called if it ever got off the ground?

    hi Trev

live is normally 10 max tables and sky have in the past played with ten max for the 8pm tourneys,,, i remember the five 00 being changed to ten seaters and it didnt go down well,,, they do have a few on here,,Tikays Sleepstack for instance,,, i like 10 seaters and its a good stepping stone to live play but I think the biggest problem is it frightens a lot of players

I for one think its a good idea but at the moment it looks like its just gonna be me and you sat there (if Tikay reads this, maybe I should have written you and I)... but who cares, I know what I mean

    Steve aka TPTyidette's worser half!

Hi Trev.......tbh I'm clueless about this, but would a 9 seater v a 6 seater table take more time to play in an online version and hence in an online tournament, sky will have to factor this in.
I'm thinking of, for example............if in a 6 seater table a player significantly raises pre-flop, he will have more chance of getting it thru without any callers, as opposed a 9 seater and hence more flops being seen etc. and therefore, less hands being dealt/hr.

i would play 10 handed but there is not enough interest for them to do this IMO, i prefer 6 seater anyways but i would play still :)

The ones Ive played are nine handed (10 peeps if you include the dealer) lol, but 9 or 10 handed is the norm. I used to play the Tikay Sleepstack but it has sadly demised. (A few weeks ago actually).

I was thinking maybe if a 9 seater could be incorporated into an ME once a week it might have a more realistic appeal and attract a following. I certainly think 9 handed would appeal more than a 10 handed tourny though IMO.

I used to love Tikays Sleepstack!!!

with 9/10 seater tourns when you get to a certain bline level lets say 100/200 i tihnk there needs to be a running ante so it would be 100/200/20.

otherwise they can go on forever

Yeh i'm pretty sure it would take longer and they would probably have to alter the blind levels to factor it in.

But it does make me wonder, how many people play online 6 handed and then at some point win an entry into a live event with little or no experience of how to play 9 or 10 handed. The playing strategy 9 or 10 handed is much different to 6 seaters so maybe sky should be giving players a chance to experience this.

Definately worth thinking about. Play 8 handed live most weekends but was still a bit awed when i played the gukpt summer series at Southampton. Mainly due to people going all in 2nd hand in a £550 entry tourney but being so used to 6 handed makes a lot of difference with your calling rages etc.

Good idea here i think with the antes , plenty of promotion and once a week to see how it goes
