Turbocharged DYMS - Interest seems to have died

edited July 2011 in Poker Chat
Im not sure if this is because of the rake which does kill a lot of potential profit. Certainly this weekend has been much quieter on these tables after a busy week.

Perhaps the novelty has worn off?

Maybe its because by the time the blinds go round 3 times you only have 2 and 1/2 BB and with 1000 chips and 6 players its not much better than a roulette and yes i did play one of these and won. 2000 chips would be more reasonable

you have to factor in the SPT at Cardiff also, the whole site has been quieter this weekend

Invest 30p to win 20p (possibly) ---not a great incentive.

Deffo not this! This is what made them popular in the first place.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Personally I've stopped coz the only benefit is C4P until rake is reduced, and I wont be able to play enough this month to make as much different to my rakeback as I would need to to justify the time and potential loss.

I'll start them again on the 1st of next month, and see how I go.

Totally disagree, its a skill in its own right to play with short stacks, knowing when to shove and when to fold.

You usually find that before the end of level two at least one player has been knocked out.

I think these are a great format - I'm running better on these than I used2on the normal DYM's & they're great for C4P ofc.

I should make priority club4the1st time this month, so hope they're here2stay!

I did notice they seemed to be a bit quieter yesterday, ofc they SHOULD be in the DYM section, that's what they are! Would def increase traffic imo if they were moved2their rightful place, but Sky are advertising them on home page so lets see.

I've tried them as quite a few people were raving about them.
I started on the site playing DYMs and found them too SLOW -  the Turbo ones I find too FAST. LOL No pleasing some folk!
As i'm still learning I like to get my moneys worth and still play a lot of hands. I've migrated to tourneys now and REALLY enjoying them.  I think my poker has improved altho the clinic is still my first port of call when I log in!

    BTW
    What is C4P?  Cash 4p?

    pad

Ahh i thought there was something tottenhamesque in your play! I assume that as you wont tell me about your notes it isnt bad!

This format suits my game too. I cant be dealing with folding for 20 minutes and then sucking out when youve got the best hand. Nor can I play more than three tables at a time which means the turbo format is good for for volume. I admit you get more bad beats in the turbo format but assuming there is enough players around you can jump in for another game very quickly.

As for the cricket im checking twitter as ill be down at lords tomorrow if they dont charge £80 a pop like for the first four days.

i havent played these and i wont be either, i can't see how anyone can make a long term profit from them, the rake is too high and the variance must be even higher.....as said the only benefit will be the c4p

plus, i'm a massive nit which can't be good for this structure!

Thing is im born in this country but parents are from the sub continent. A lot of the first generation asian brits are supporting India but personally im stuck right on the fence and therefore want both teams to win. I cant lose!

£20 bargain! I recogn it will be a full house so will be getting there at 8:30 am, having some brekkie and going over to my old office before play starts.

As for the poker, I need a tablet with flash technology so I can play while I watch the cricket!

Am i missing something? (other than a scre w loose lol) But i just played a DYM Turbocharge which was £5.50. So whats all the stuff about the rake being too high, is it not standard 10%? - oh and i won lol.

The rake is 10% but the argument is that due to the rake being at this level its very difficult to make a profit due to bad beats etc. If you play HU turbos the rake is only 5%, hence the comments.

Ah ha, i get you now, the 5% mustn't fit in with sky's current business model lol.

Spot on and if you get 20k points you get 46.5% rakeback anyway.
  • edited July 2011
So the rakeback means you are still worse off than if you played a normal speed game, notwithstanding that it will be far harder to turn a decent roi. Doesnt sound that good a deal to me to be honest. Whats the justification for doubling the rake?

No you are no worse off as the rake is 10% for normal and turbo dyms, my point is that as you can play a lot more turbos you can acheive higher rakeback through higher cash for points. The percentage as rakeback dramatically increases when you get beyond 20k c4p.

If you can play 2800 of them in a month the rakeback is £1562 (assuming priority club), as a percentage its 55%, not to be sniffed at. Even if you break even (if you are a better than average player this should be possible) youre still clearing a tidy sum.

You do have to put the hours in though.

I think youll find standard rake for 6 or 10 max games is 10%, HU its 5%. This is the same at all sites.
