Play AA at your peril

edited July 2011 in The Poker Clinic
Twice at the weekend at important stages of a tourney, now the cash tables have a laugh at my expense. Shoot me down for the first one but the second one was against a player that played in probably 90% of hands for well over 2 hours and there is no way he had a q.

in the 1st hand why are you not re-raising him on that flop? You deserve too lose with aces playing like that

2nd hand you cant get away from
  • edited July 2011
    1st hand raise flop obvz.

2nd hand just stick him all in on flop, plays same obvz.

I really dont know why i didnt re-raise flop or turn, maybe i knew what was coming. Even with a re-raise i think he is calling it so maybe i saved myself i bit of cash.

Bigger preflop bet for me both times. I've been caught out too many times. First handi think he calls a post flop raise but i'm defo all in on the turn . He can only call with a set or paired Q with a big kicker maybe?
  • edited July 2011
hand 1: raise on the flop or shove the turn

    hand 2: shove the flop
  • edited July 2011

Hand 2 I wouldn't even bet the flop.

bad excuse, you raise it pre then when he donk bets into you, you decide to just flat every street if you are just going to flat flop at least bump it up on the turn, but flop i would be re raising turn setting him in and if he calls river losing but you still have to at least put him to some sort of test

wouldnt say i am the best player ever, we all make mistakes mate, keep ya chin up and rise back, but the first aces you had maybe you should have warned him and not let him catch gutshot str8 or his trips! my opinion doesnt mean i am right tho, Head up! :)

lets be honest unless its an unbelivable draw heavy board your moneys going in everytime so charge them a fortune to hit there draws, especially here on sky!

when delt Aces im pleased to pick up the blinds everytime with a very agressive raise pre flop, your either winnin minimal or going broke with aces on this site in my opinion

Dudeskin you ever had aces on sky?

If you have then youl know what im talking about, your either winning minimal or going broke, either way youve gotta put a big raise in pre flop.

By the time it gets to the flop your getting your money in and loosin to somebody whose decided to call ur weak raise with suited connectors or a pcoket pair and hit a set, eitherway ur going broke.

Take the advice lado, what is the post called again? "Play AA at your Peril?"

    Good Luck

  • edited July 2011
Yes I have had them, although not enough imo lol

I usually win very nice pots on Sky with them, when I don't win it's when someone calls a bet getting bad odds and hits their 'out', this is bad for me but long term as John Tabatabi (spelling) said on one of the cash shows (where they had a guy who actually speaks proper, not enough of late sadly) that if you play it the right way over time your basically printing money against that guy.

You mention guy calls your 'weak' raise, why are we raising weak with big hand? No, you raise big with big hands you then bet big on flop with big hands. Big Big Big BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGG wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Oh and it is LOSING, not LOOSING which is not a word, you can however be a LOOSE player but not a LOSE player, although you can be a LOSING player. ;)

I know, they even made a nice seperate section, guess some people need a guided tour. :)

Generally speaking, every street makes your aces worse. They rarely improve and when they do there's either an A on board (so you don't get paid) or a paired board, when you could be in trouble.
Fantastic to have them heads up or short stacked, but actually quite vulnerable. They're only one pair after all. The problem often is that people think they have a God-given right to win a hand when they're dealt them.

I like the dudes answer i raise big with big hands whenever and wherever it always means that i never ever have to post a forum question as to my choices. I bet out and i land if somebody luckboxes fair play but it never allows me to have doubt.

Its all the other muck i play with that needs a look at!

Aces are obviously the strongest hand pre flop but they can lose value very quickly as the hand plays out. Most people dont recognise this fact at the lower limits, they see AA and think they cannot be beaten. It happens, over time you will win more than you lose with them if you play them correctly. Of course, variance is part of the game, you got to live with it.
