Right to see folded hands

edited August 2011 in Poker Chat

When someone calls, is beaten, then automucks on the end, their hands are mucked and you don't get to see what they had.
However, if you look in the hand history it shows you exactly what they had so you can instantly find out anyway!

What are the rules about showing hands?

Either they should be seen or should not be seen. Not mucked on the table then available to view through hand history.

yes i was just thinking this the other day and gonna write something about it. Seems pointless having a muck button if you can see what they had in the history! either muck means muck or it dosnt sky?

The rules are if a hand goes to showdown the opponents have the right to see the cards.  So even though you muck them they can look anyway.

That's not the case live, though, is it?

Depends on the casino,  The one I play all hands must be shown at showdown, except in cash games

I'm pretty sure it's the case the opponent CAN ask to see the cards.  But it's bad etiquette.  So you'd be find asking Graham. ;-)

    Roberts Rules of Poker:

Any player who has been dealt in may request to see any hand that was eligible to participate in the showdown, even if the opponent's hand or the winning hand has been mucked. However, this is a privilege that may be revoked if abused. If a player other than the pot winner asks to see a hand that has been folded, that hand is dead. If the winning player asks to see a losing player’s hand, both hands are live, and the best hand wins.

In live tournies you can always ask to see the hand at showdown.  You won't be too popular but yes it is your right.  In cash someone can still muck at showdown which can lead to ridiculous stand-offs at the end.  I think it comes down to house rules if you can see a hand at cash in live play.

One point you're missing is that railers have no access to see mucked cards on Sky.  I personally think this is a good thing as you can ghost a table and get so much information on a player (this is mainly effective in HU tables but can work across the board).

BTW it's not just SkyPoker that have automuck but you can look at the hand in the history.  I know the Big One also has this among others.
