edited August 2011 in The Shed
DOES ANYONE ELSE GET PHONE CALLS FROM PEOPLE YOU CAN NOT UNDERSTAND ASKING ABOUT YOUR COMPUTER, I HAVE ID ON PHONE AND THE CALL COMES UP INTERNATIONAL.
NOW I`V HAD A FEW TIMES LAST COUPLE DAYS AND EVERYTIME NOT INTERESTED, SO YESTERDAY YET ANOTHER CALL FROM THEM AND MY REPLY WAS IF I GET ANOTHER CALL I WILL NOT BE RESPONSABLE FOR MY LANGUANGE.
NOW THEY SAID SORRY AND THEY`LL TAKE ME OFF THE LIST?, ANYWAY YET AGAIN TODAY SAME MUPPET, SO LUCKILY MY GIRLS WERE OUT ( ALTHOUGH THEY`D FIND IT FUNNY ME RANTING OVER PHONE), BUT I GOT INTO ABOUT 8 WORDS, 5 I CAN NOT SAY BEFORE THEY HUNG UP ON ME, I WAS QUITE UPSET THEY DID THIS AS I HAD A LOT MORE CHOICE WORDS FOR THEM,

This is a common scam Sporny, the basic premise is someone calls you to say they are from Microsoft/Anti-Virus company and that there is a report your computer is infected.  They then get you to open event viewer and show you thousands, if not, tens of thousands of errors.  (This is perfectly normal operation and they aren't errors just informational messages mostly).

The unsuspecting computer owner then believes the caller is from the company and then naively starts to hand over credit card details, etc.

The problem with posting these sort of warnings on here is that there are probably hundreds, if not thousands of scams doing the rounds at any one time.  So yes, it's in everyone's interest to know, but via Sky Poker forums isn't perhaps the right place.

Please forward this to as many people as you can, so AOL can trace the emails and raise money to stop this happening....

I got this call last Friday.

The best bit was when he said my computer was about to be attacked by a virus in the next 10 seconds if I didn't allow him remote assistance...

Me: Well it's lucky for me you called when you did.

    Him: 10...9...

    Me: Hahahahahahahahaha!

    Him: ........

Me: (After 10 seconds) Nothings happening.

    Him: ........

    Me: Goodbye.
