Hi, looking for a poker book to learn something from. Was thinking of some of these, anyone read any of them? Feel free to make other recomendations. I've played a good bit of poker and I think I have a reasonable grasp of the basics, looking to expand my knowledge/improve my thinking

    Recently read the " Winning poker tournaments one hand at a time" books which are excellent for MTT strategy.

    Hwang's Omaha book is good and I think TK recommended it on Ch.865.

    Devilfish's autobiography's quite funny.

        the mathematics of poker  bill chen

    will give a little review after if you want but might take a while to get through them, esp. mathematics.

    jeff hwang's plo book is good for begginners imo not that great on advanced stuff

    On the subject, are there any good cash books out there? I've read Harrington's and, although it explains a few principles well, it's (IMHO) wholly inadequate for the modern game and not at all suitable for 6max.

    Also, why are they so expensive? I'd like to read Barry Carter's book, but £32?! War and Peace retails for £1.99 to put it into comparison.

    I'd say The Mental Game of Poker is worth £32 though. It's an excellent book and one you have to keep referring to as you work on that aspect of your game/life.

    The Poker Blueprint is a great six max cash game book. It's mainly written with micro stakes in mind but it's still worth a read.

    ref barry carters mental game of poker,  You can buy the kindle version for a fraction, around £6, the kindle app is a free download from a well known online book store amazon, i found the kindle app to work well on my pc

    After seeing a recent SPT winner with this book i bought ity as well (1st ever poker book) except i got volume 2 by mistake which takes you from the bubble to winning a tournament so got to get to the bubble first before using any of this knowledge

    Hoping to borrow the 1st edition of a mate soon

    Still say theres no better way to learn than practise tho

    aint read any of them but fwiw super sutem 2 is prolly the best all rounder out there and is a must buy (great read, it has great bunch of pros involved, some great stories from doyle too)

    LOL i started reading that, untill i noticed everyone else taking about conceous competant, and unconceous balh blah and it just makes me cringe for some reason plus i though i was the only one reading it, sadly its rotting away in the archives of my kindle lol

    Phil gordon little green book has got very good reviews on amazon. Ordered my copy last week.

    I'd strongly recommend - Elements of Poker by Tommy Angelo

    It's completely different to any other poker book you will have ever read and an excellent insight into poker thinking, what makes a good poker player, and what makes us play our best poker.

    It's not about hand ratings, bet sizing, pot odds, triple range merging etc.......  and it's a really absorbing read.  For players that already understand how to play winning poker, this is a great book to read to improve how you think about poker.

    I'm sure it's cheaper than that now in book form anyway.

    Whilst I agree that e-readers, ipads etc are great now for reading. Alot of people still prefer an actual book.

    i would defo have to recommend this book. i bought it a few weeks ago from amazon and it has some great info in it.
     phil tells you how he plays different hands in different situations.

     its really helped me get the most out of my good hands and how to lose the least if i think im beat but cant be 100%.
