  tonight i played in  3 games where  players hit the im away button.
  they were using it to try and trap unsuspecting players, they would sit until they got a hand then  hit im back   then raise,
  i was lucky in as much i won but its bad enough to try to  watch what people are doing without this function
  being used to their advantage.
  we all know that you may have to leave the table, toilet , phone call , put the kids to bed, shoot the
  neighbour  however, to stop this practice why not say that if you sit out then you must sit out until
  the next big blind or button.
  this would allow genuine players time to do stuff and the others no time to take advantage

maybe people shouldnt be as so greedy as to try and steal the blinds of someone who is away, putting the kids to bed, going to the toilet, phone call?

But you're suggesting it's ok to take advantage of these "away" players by stealing their blinds until they snap call / raise / shove when they have a hand?

They are just taking advantage of you taking advantage of them.
