Suggestion: Olympic Weekend

edited September 2011 in Poker Chat

We choose one weekend in October for the SkyPoker Olympics.

Events mirror the real Olympics with the SkyPoker 100m being a Velocity event with heats on Saturday and Final on Sunday evening.  Other events could include a 1500 metres final (normal freezeout) Boxing (heads-up tournament) Marathon (a deepstack running all day from 2pm on Sunday) Decathlon (multiple games played) and so on.  Every game will be £5 to enter. Over the weekend we could have, say, 20 Olympic events and limited only by our lateral thinking to devise more.

In addition to the normal prize-money I would like to think that SkyPoker will sponsor games by awarding a Primo seat for each gold medalist and others prizes for Silver and Bronze.  Gold, Silver and Bronze medals being announced (anthem, graphics, podium) on the Sunday programme with a "SkyPokerlympics" Medal Table.

    Four added ideas...

We could have (although not in favour normally) a women only event.  Just like the real Olympics.  We have many very good female players (Gliterbabe and sara36dd08 are excluded) and a one-off competition would be interesting and a further notable triumph for the winners.

We could also have Qualifying events (satellites) into the main Heats.  And like Survivor you could buy into the Final.

If the software allowed we could have our own Sky Poker Paralympic event whereby one hole card was not shown until the end of the hand.

Again, software permitting, a relay could include a team of four players playing one hour each.

I like this, and your other idea. A 1 off weekend where the tourny schedule is totally re-vamped, every tourny is changed and given a theme, with tonnes of advertising, and satellites leading up well in advance.

But there is no way sky would ever do it imo, it's just far too much effort for them.

It takes 4 weeks of blagging for them to change something as simple as the GTD prizepool on an over-performing tournament.

    suggestion to cover triathlon.

Tournament starts 9 steated. plays down to 24 players, goes to 6 max plays to 4 winners (so 4x 6 max STTs effectivley) they then play a 4 way HU for winner.

    Hello sky_dave...

Can I have a £1,000 budget to organise this weekend?

I expect that it will payback the investment with 20 tournaments attracting 100 entrants at £5 giving a rake of 50p.  And, of course, success will be more likely if the weekend is promoted well by the skypoker team.

Waiting now for the B of Bang.

Even on a small scale, if not enough time, would be great to do something on these lines!!

Dont want to complicate any ideas, & plenty of team stuff about already, but maybe could allocate people into countries or let the current teams, [DTD or Colours], be countries with a medals table???? hey, but remember, am certified Krazy!!

    Hey all...

Just an update on this one. I've brought it to the attention of the men upstairs and they really like the idea, as do I. We'll definitely want to pick this up, but it will most likely be around the time of the Olympics, to make it topical etc.

We also have another reason as to why we won't do it sooner. We've got something planned later this year and it's gonna be good. Watch this space, etc. Well, perhaps not this *exact* space...

    I Love this idea.

Its a real pick me up for the Olympic weekend to get everyone into the spirit of things.

I'm sure given time there could be some more great suggestions for the events.

    N1 Aussie

Although my only suggestion for the Paralympics version is:

We all have to get totaly drunk before we enter the tournies lol
