Vegas advice/recs?

Hey i think im going to Vegas sometime soon. Anyone got any advice on good places to stay? Best places to play poker(1/2 - 5/10)? Things to check out while im there? will probably do the Grand Canyon helicopter ride, maybe gun range, what else is good? Good shows? Nice places to eat? Also whats the best way to get my money out there so i can play in the cash games?

i imagine bellagio/aria will be best for poker outside of wsop months, GC helicopter ride is pretty awesome would recomend it. Cut @ Palazzo is really nice steak place

i just took money with me mostly in travelers cheques (500 denomination)

Hi offshoot.

Firstly, i've never been. However, i remember a very good blog on precisely this subject whilst the WSOP was on. I'm afraid i cant find it but it was all about where to go, where to stay, where the best games could be found. I cant for the life of me remember who wrote the darn thing. There was quite a bit of info even about flights and stuff i think. 

Might be worth having a look yourself, im useless at finding things like this.

Are travellers cheques definitely the best way to go, can i just cash them in at the casino for chips? Did you have any problems with them?

hi mate

been to vegas a few times

last time i went a mate ran out off cash

he tryed the machines in the hotel and casino but found the withdrawl amout quite low and the commission very high

he ended uo walking to the post office where you can use your bank and credit cards for very little with no limit on withdrawl

as for things to do freemont st is well worth a visit

the rio is nice the show at 6 is free

my favourite hotel is the imperial palace its a dump but top position and entertainment on in the evenings

osheas is fun

margeretaville is top food well priced with a show

the m resort is worth a visit do that when you go shopping as the mall is halfway to the m resort

im proberly going late jan if thats not to far away for you

u just go to the cashier and sign them infront of them and they then give you cash for them..

u get a worse exchange rate with them i think, but also they are safer as if you lose them other ppl cant spend them etc

Get your travellers cheques in $Dollars rather than £pounds and then its just a case of signing your travellers cheque in front of cashier and showing passport and jobs a good un! It's virtually cash. However if you go elsewhere in america with travellers cheques (carolina/louisiana and many more i'm sure!)they can be more difficult to sort out/exchange! (and i'm sure i heard deliverance banjo music in the background !)

I stayed at Caesars Palace was going to book on the internet but it gave a telephone number on one of the adverts.
As I have my phone with Sky and calls to landlines in the US are free. I phoned up and haggled about the price and they gave me an offer called Roman Holiday over the phone which was less than half the price advertised on the Web.
My advice is if you know anyone with sky unlimited try to get a cheap flight and phone around.
The Casinos make their money on punters sat on machines or at tables so you can get some great deals on rooms!
Be confident tell them what you want to pay and negotiate! you'll be surprised at how low they will go!

What Dunmidosh says.. if you book your hotels yourself you can book the rooms and then if you see an offer of a room at a lower price re-book to the new lower price and you gain the benefit.It's a conference town and if a few delegates suddenly don't turn up, then they have to try and flog the rooms at whatever price they can get.You only have to give at least 24hrs notice for a cancellation and you will get a total refund on your credit card.Me and my brother saved about £300 rebooking rooms at better rates when we first went to vegasnand have done most years since.

I would personally just take cash if you can get a good rate. Thomas Global Exchange is really good for that. Alternatively you can organise when you get out there by wiring money to whatever hotel you are staying at. You get a good rate and is really easy. It was in the Palazzo anyway..

Places to stay

Bellagio is very central and obv world famous and freaking awesome. Would recommend the Cosmopolitan if you are going with a ladyfriend. Palazzo however is my favourite, very spacious rooms, central and stunning. Also it's affiliation with the Venetian is great for pools/poker room. 

Places to eat

Cut @ Palazzo - LOVED IT. Cosmopolitan Buffet is worth a shout and is better IMO than the Bellagio one and way less busy. Lemongrass @ the Aria was my hands down winner from this Summer. Thai food at its best!

Gun ranges

DO IT but make sure you go to American Shooters, they are way more relaxed with both time and reloading your guns etc. The Gun Store is very much a conveyor belt where they try to get you in ant out as quick as poss. at AS you can take your time, its cheaper and gun selection is immense.I would recommend every gun we shot in my second Vegas Video Blog if you havent already seen it. 

Grand Canyon

We did one in Feb 2009 but it wasnt the best. Was like $400 I think and they flew you into the Canyon where you have lunch and then leave. We didnt really get to really appreciate the scale of it to be honest. The SkyWalk version of the trip is a lot better as then you get the views. 

Strip Clubs

Spearmint Rhinos and Sapphire are the ones to go to but be careful, it can cost you a load, gets very addictive and leaves you with blue balls lol. 

Poker

Bellagio poker is best for $5/10+ which I assume you will be playing. Aria poker room looks sweet but I havent played there yet. Tournaments will be running cyclically around the casinos...
