How to go from neutral player to winning player?

After playing poker with friends for a while I was convinced by one of them to join sky poker. I hadn't really played much on the site until it reached the summer holidays from university. I decided I wanted to learn poker properly and build upon my basic knowledge that I had.

I have been playing for the last two months or so, on and off, mainly playing DYM Sit and Go's however I have had an up and down time with it. Currently sitting slightly above my starting BR. I reckon I am a fairly tight player generally only playing premium hands.

Should I be using any particular strategies to increase my win percentage in DYM's?

Is there anything anyone can recommend that will help me improve?

Any responses would be much appreciated.

Hi boom6. 

I will bore you with some of the stuff i have done. I started with absolutely no idea about poker but stumbled in to it whilst bored over christmas last year. I was a typical donk, not understanding anything and basically hitting and hoping. I really got stuck in to learning the game by watching skypoker channel and listening and watching advice from Tikay who is fantastic and also some of the other players that appear on there. 

From there, my play really improved and i started to become a break even player after a month or so. I continued watching the channel (loads of it) and found my way on to the poker clinic which is part of this forum. I started asking some dumb questions expecting to be crucified but everyone was really helpful. I posted some hands on there and got some great advice.

Again, my game continued to gather pace. I started to build a bit of money in my account. This encouraged me to learn even more. I now consistently win at lower stakes cash games and am starting to move up a level or two.

Basically, study the game. watch channel 865. Read the clinic. Dont be afraid to ask, people will help you on this site.

watch winning players play... e.g. the infamous 'Stinger' aka Brian Isildurr-killer.. his tutorial videos on Cardrunners are golden... find someone to hook u up with those or similar... speak and watch deathgod poker playas e.g. CoxyLBoro on this site... def should up your VPIP % but as Sky is mainly 6-max format ur prob not as tight as u think i would summise... from an ex-FullTilt-addict new Skypoker convert, keenberg

ps. if u dont... play Omaha to improve ur Hold-Em no end (did for me anyhows) teaches u big hand vs big hand set-up scenarios etc for one thing.... 4-card 4-card 4-card
