Saturday's live show with Hartigan & Harris (***OFFICIAL THREAD***)

edited September 2011 in Poker Chat

Yes, Trevor's back! And he'll be joining me on channel 865 at 9pm for this week's edition of Master Cash, featuring Top of the Pots. Expect four hours of real money No Limit Hold'em, plus...

SPT UPDATES
We'll be crossing live twice an hour to DTD for the latest news and gossip from the Sky Poker Tour Grand Final.

STRATEGY TALK
Tonights' topic is trouble hands. You know the kind of holdings I'm talking about: AQ, AJ, JJ, TT. For example, what do you do when you've raised with AJ in early position and then find yourself facing a three-bet? If you've recently been in a tricky spot with a trouble hand, please send us the Hand ID. We'd also like questions and opinions on this topic. You can e-mail
skyopen@bskyb.com or contribute to this thread.

COMPETITION
To mark Mr Harris's return, we'll be playing a new variation of an old favourite. There are three tournament entries to be won in 'Trevial Pursuit: The Reverser'. Details will be revealed at 9pm :-)

Have a good show guys, nice to see Trevor back.

As for trouble hands you've got to be disciplined enought to be able to lay them down if you feel you're out kicked etc.

Also if you raise hands like A/J, Q/J, 10/10 from early position and face a 3-bet, your next move all depends on chip stacks and how the villain has been playing.

If the villain has been playing fairly loose aggressive and squeezing alot, or if i'm going to be fairly short stacked if I just call a 3-bet then i'd be happy to shove in this spot with A/Q, A/J, J/J, 10/10 etc.

If the villain has been playing fairly tight then I maybe more inclined to fold unless i'm really short stacked, but then i'd be open shoving if I was that short.

If we're sat deep and you can afford to see a flop with these hands then i'd be happy to and reevaluate depending on what the villain does next and what cards are dealt on the flop.

    James,

After your superb prediction if the NFL opener the other nite, do you fancy making predictions for the 'tv treble' 2mora nite?

    The games are:

    + 1.5 Pittsburgh @ Baltimore - 1.5

    - 2.5 NY Giants @ Washington + 2.5

    +5.5 Cowboys @ NY Jets -5.5

fwiw i'v already had a treble on ravens, giants and jets, but i'd still be interested to hear your opinion.

    Is this on skybet ?

I,d also be interested in some tips from James

As for trouble hands AQ TT and the otheers you mentioned. I wouldn,t call them trouble hands.

i think as long as you make your mind up before the hand that you could hit the flop and still may have to lay it down  or not get to attactched to it then they can work out very well for you

    have a good show

    Questions for Trev
    How was Columbia?
Best food he tasted out there?
    Worst food?
How did the team get on?
    Would he go there again?
    Funniest thing that happened?
Did he play any poker there?
Is Tikay going to beat Orford?

I'm feeling guilty about asking the questions now!
Trevor is such an excellent raconteur!
I just thought with most of the regulars missing it would brighten up the show!
Thank goodness I didn't post the movie questions I had lined up for James! lol

    Trouble hands;

    @ AQ.

Random question for James : What did you think of 13 assassins? Not 7 samurai (tip appreciated) but did Miike come close? Due to living 100 miles from the nearest cinema I haven't seen it yet but it's awaiting my judgement very shortly.

    13 assassins though James? Thoughts?

I don't think there are trouble hands per se, only trouble players and trouble situations.

If you are comfortable at a table and can outplay people post flop, no particular hand should be a trouble hand.
If you come up against a really good OR really aggressive player you not only start to question the strength of your hand and have no idea whether you're ahead or not, you forget your name, basic details about yourself and endure a crisis of confidence as they put you to the sword with great bets and plays.

A trouble situation is playing marginal hands (or overplaying vulnerable hands) without due attention to the table - the short stack on your left dying to shove his chips in, the rock who suddenly woke up and started betting or simply poor play through the streets.

The right player at the right table finds no trouble cards.

Hartigan? 13 assassins? yeah or nay?! I don't know how to take it without your judgement?

Harris? Arsenal? Yeah or nay. Top 6 or not? I cursed my son with Hibs but he took Arsenal all by himself against my ManU love. I took him a 24hr round trip to the emirates. They drew 0-0. He's possibly a jinx, lol.

Hi Mr. Hartigan. I have been amused and amazed , simultaneously I must add, at your memory faculty regarding films for a while. You transcend enthusiast and enter the realms of savant. It's great entertainment.
What i wanted to ask you is do you have a brilliant memory for faces and the people you meet as well  i.e characters , or is it simply the medium of film-making that fascinates you,  to the extent that it brands itself indelibly on your memory ? Perhaps both ?
I love films. However my memory serves me poorly in the visual arena. It takes me ages to assign names to faces, in films and life generally. However i am pretty good at recalling dialogue and things i've read.
Obviously this enquiry isn't designed for the show but if you do possess the time and the inclination i'd genuinely be interested in a brief response.
You do a great job and i  appreciate it. You have a very cool gift.

    Hi Mass,

I am blessed with a great visual memory. That, combined with enthusiasm for the art of cinema, means I can actually recall the exact framing of certain shots and editing of certain scenes!

    Thanks for your kind words,

    James.

Excellent ! Thanks for that. I can recall conversations generally verbatim from years ago and dialogue i have heard. I can also recall the image of the written word, where i find interesting, and used to be an avid reader.
It struck me that you are the recipient of a great luxury insomuch as your memory skills incorporate colour additionally to interaction. Whatever faculty i possess is purely in black and white.
Good on you. Did you ever imagine you'd be presenting a cable poker show ? Do you do any film-related activity in the media outside of 865 ? Be a waste not to.
