Most problems at football clubs start at board level?

edited September 2011 in The Football Corner
Discuss! As Dohhhhh has said on another thread the doncaster head honcho was out voted by the board on the sacking of Driscall ! Yet often these are blokes with money and no clue of football are just interested in the celebrity /publicity that involvement in football brings and the financial gains.

The boards of most clubs have a difficult job balancing the hope and expectations of the fans with running a finacialy stable club.
There is no profit to be made in owning/running any football club and most spend more than they earn mainly on players wages.
you either run sensibly within your means and chugg along at a level that you fan base can sustain or you take the veiw that if we spend or borrow x million pounds we can increase the gates move up a level and pick up more tv money. this is only ever a short term win because you reach a point where either the money or the credit rating runs out and your basically stuffed.

The boards of clubs and more importantly the fans have to realise that they have to be realistic about there clubs potential.
I remember coming back from wembly in 2008 after winning the cup as a fan of a team who had finished 8th and won the cup a group of us all sensible guys lates 20s to late 40s who instead of looking back at our best season in 60 years were saying if we can sign crouch to go with defoe and anouther centre half to replace campbell we will make the champions league.

boards now have to start saying sorry we cant afford him and no you cant have more money.
I saw an interview with neil warnock the other day saying about tarbaat wanting to sign a new contract (agents speak for wanting more money) and he said weve just got to the premier league it might be an idea if he shows he can play there before asking for more money.

So in answer to you original question no most problems start with the fans the boards just make them worse
