weekly charity tournament

edited October 2011 in Poker Chat
I know a large number of players on the site and on sky are good charitable people.

So what im suggesting is a weekly low stake tournament where 50% of the prizepool is donated to a charity of the winners choice (or randomly selected by community votes). Now of coarse this would have to be made clear within the tournament lobby as clearly not all players will know and would register expecting it to be regular.

Now if people agree to this im happy for this to be any time of day. Although I would prefer a deeper stack structure although i know thats not suitable for all.

charity tournies have been brought up on Sky loads of times

the issue is legal.  what if someone mistakenly registers and doesn't want to give the money away?  sky can't do anything that is in a legal grey area and I imagine that charity tournies are in that area.

i imagine that the teams can organise their own charity tournies via their facebook pages/threads.

how about doing STTs on freeplay and in order to play you have to donate £5 or so to your team captain (or someone trusted).  the winner of the STT then gets to choose the charity.

i know its not the same as a full scale MTT but there are ways still to combine poker/charity on Sky and if someone does get this going then do let me know as I would def take part.

Scotty, just a thought, you could have the tournie as password protected (that you get from the forum) then you could not get any accidental entries, would this solve any legal issues?
It seems a shame for charities to miss out if all the players are up for it

i was trying to get the communtity involved.

scotty if the tourny is clearly marked in the lobby as say, Sly Poker "x charity" event surley that would get around the legal issues. As long as its made clear in advance?

    Just curious.
