NL4 to NL8

Closing in on 20BIs which was my target to start SHOT taking at NL8. Anyways just curious as to having not played the level in well over a year, what differance is in the play now.

I remember it being very similar but that may have changed.

Funny you should start this post as I have just done the same thing and moved up to NL8 after grinding my way up 20 buy-ins playing NL4.

I've not played enough to notice much difference yet, only 302 hands. My first few sessions resulted in very modest profits, but I had a bad session today and blew 1½ buy-ins in 77 hands.

Overall, I'm about a buy-in down after 302 hands, but I have had some rotten luck (e.g. AA all-in nicely preflop being cracked by 55 on the river). I admit I have also played some hand badly, making some calls that I really shouldn't have (e.g. "I don't believe he has a set... Oh dear!")

Again, not a lot of hands played, but my first impressions have been there are a slightly higher proportion of non-fish.

One more bad session for me and I'm back down to NL4 for a wee bit, which is fine.

Well since playing NL10 when I moved back down to NL8 opening for 4x pre seemed a little crazy so I went with standard 3x and worked ok but it was just tiny sessions when NL10 tables were slow to get going with action/fish/too many regs, I wouldn't make it more than 4x pre though, 40p each time is pretty big.

Hi Don.

As you have seen on my BBV thread, i have had some run bad at NL8. The standard of play? I would say it is slightly better as there are fewer tables to choose from and therefore a higher % chance of running into some regs.

I find that some of the solid players from NL4 seem to have a few shots at NL8 and you also get one or two players from higher levels playing there on occasion. (I caught grantorino sat down at one the other day for example).

I wouldnt really change much about your game to be honest. Its still all about value for strong hands, there are just fewer players that stack off super light than at NL4. Its similar to NL4 in the fact that there are quite a few recreational players that buy in short stacked and hope to hit big.

Nothing to worry about Don, very similar but it can be very slightly harder to get as much value due to a restriction on table selection and you may have to sit down with more regs than at NL4.

Sorry Harding, i know that was'nt aimed at me but i tend to agree with dudeskin. 3x is ok at NL8 but if i am in early position i might make it 4x. Its also table dependent, see what they are calling and adjust your betsizing to suit.

3x and 4x raise is standard and vary this so as to hide fact you may have a monster , i dont think you notice the standard of play overall bein any diff until nl20 and upwards , yeah there is still bad players but defo less of them

ty guys. bad session last night set me back a little still only 3.5 buy ins away so pretty close.
