Thursday Night Live on 865 with Rich, Tikay and Dylan12! ***official show thread****

edited October 2011 in Poker Chat
Hi Rich, Tikay, Dylan.

Multi tabling MTT's
MTT's, for me, 4 is fine, 5 is a push, 6 is too many!!

Lucky
Car Crash. If the car that hit me from the side had been 6 inches to the right it would have done me some serious damage. I got out of the car shaking from head to toe, but apart from that not a scratch, you couldn't say the same for the car!!

PS looking forward to James's OMAHA league next week.

    Morning all,

Fun show tonight. The newly annointed 'Jackpot Hero' TM Dylan Davies aka Dylan12 joins us this evening to preside over the Sky Sports Bounty Hunter and Sky Roller.

Tikay and I will be flanking him. That's flanking.

And the whole shebang kicks off at 8pm and goes on to the unearthly weeknight hour of midnight. You get your full pound of flesh on 865, so no complaining!

Four hours of coverage then- plus your questions, hand requests, banter. We'll do it all.

Two topics to get us going. Firstly- our educational one...

    Multi-tabling MTTS

What are the pros and cons? What's the best way to do it? How do you set up your screen? Are there any do's and don'ts regarding the type of mtts you should be multi-tabling? How many is too many?

Dylan is on hand to offer his thoughts as the man who multi-tabled himself skilfully to glory recently and won two MTTs simultaneously.

Secondly- in tribute to the ultimate luckbox Dylan who luckboxed his way to glory recently and won two MTTs simultaneously...

    Ever got lucky?

No, I don't mean in THAT way before all the dodgy stories start flowing in. I mean, has there ever been an incident in your life where you thought the gods were smiling down on you? Some incredible piece of fluke or coincidence that for once, just turned out the right way for you? Job interview? Fateful phonecall? Being in the right place at the right time? Weather playing a part in something? What's the biggest example of luckboxing you've ever pulled off?

So, let's have your input on those please. Oh, and I almost forgot- all your rubdowns for Dylan please. I'll be disappointed if we don't get at least 300 in on tonight's show!!! LOL

As is now the norm on Thursdays, I will be playing from under the stairs, whilst perfecting the art of aggressive limping.

Dylan - well what can I say?  I've seen some incredible things at first hand in my life - the Beatles start-up and break-up - the moon landings - England winning the World Cup - The assassination of Kennedy - Dylan winning 2 mtts in one night - and Orford cashing in a live side event. All unique, unforgettable and in some cases almost unbelievable.

Multi-tabling mtts - max for me is 4 - the ideal is 2. More than that and it becomes somewhat automated poker. Getting a handle on opponents isn't possible for me with more than 2 tables.

    Have a great show guys.

ps.  Luckiest break was probably crashing my car at 50 mph through a stone bridge and ending up in the river below. I was knocked out in the impact and when I awoke the car was perfectly balanced on it's nose in a raging river. I didn't even get my feet wet.

Strangely, I can't multi-table very well at all (then again my single table play is nothing to shout about). I find that I can't change gears from one event to another. So when it's 10bb shove fest on one table and the start of another, I am likely to play the wrong way in each case. Scientists have come up with a novel word for this - STUPID.

Many congrats to Dylan for his awesome Jackpot performance. I'd like to say it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I'd like to say that, but I was told never to lie.

I can't think of a lucky occasion that springs to mind, but this sort of counts, as it is lucky, but more an unreal coincidence. It didn't happen to me - one of those "friend of a friend" stories.

An optician rang up their patient to let them know their spectacles were ready. So they duly dial the number, and the phone is answered. "Hello, is that Mr Smith?" they ask. "Yes, he replies", "good, hust ringing from the opticians to let you know your spectacles are ready for collection." .."er... that's great, he says, but how did you get me on this number?" "we just rang your home number, sir" was the obvious reply. "Ahhh, you got one number worng, this is a public phone box that I happened to be walking past as it rang". Gob-smacked all round.

Have a great show Dylan, keep up the accent!

Really looking forward to having Dylan as a guest, guess there'll be plenty of laughs on the show. I was in Corfu when Dylan did the double so if I didn't get to say it already, can I just say congratulations to the guy, outstanding achievement.

I hope there'll be plenty of anecdotes drawn out of Dylan on the show but here are some of my own questions for him anyway.

/> When he saw the jackpot announced, what did he think? Did he realistically think he had a shot at it? Did he think it would ever go? Who would have been his favourite to do it first?

/> Does he play both the double events every night to give himself maximum chance? Does he also play other tourneys around that time?

/> On the night, when did he realise he had a realistic shot at the jackpot?

/> Do any hands stick out in his mind? Did he get really lucky at any point?

/> When did the tournaments finish relative to each other, did he have one locked up for a large period of time?

/> Was he in any other tournaments when those 2 went deep?

/> Did his tactics ever change from his normal ones because of the Jackpot?

/> How did it feel to win? In particular, (was probably already there anyway) but he is now going to go down in SkyPoker history for sure, how does that feel?

    Have a great show all!

Almost forgot, I have some thoughts on multi-tabling, although not specifically MTTs, just in general. I thought I'd note it down here as it goes against the conventional 'add one at a time' advice. This is so widely accepted that it undoubtedly works best for many, many people.

There must be some people out there, though, who will prefer the approach that worked for me. That is to simply load up 6 (or however many games) and just plough straight into it. DYMs are ideal as they force you to continue for around 40 minutes. I bet a lot of people would be surprised to learn how comfortable they are multi-tabling if they tried this just once.

I couldn't multi-table for ages and ages, or I thought I couldn't. But I thought of it the same way as driving. I absolutely hated learning to drive and thought I would just never get it. But I would look around every day and see thousands of drivers. How was it possible that all these people could drive and I would never be able to? The answer is almost always that it isn't possible. It's a similar thing with multi-tabling I think, you just need to take the step to make it happen.

(sorry for the rather obscure analogy)

Great stuff John and everyone else.

We're live in 3 and a half hours- make you you have your say on the show tonight!

I would say many congrats to Dylan but it looks like people have beaten me to it so I won't ;)

Multi tabling, two idealy, three tops.  I could possibly cope with more but my laptop can't!

I consider myself to be lucky everyday to still be here.  Last year I had two tumours removed from my lower spinal cord.  Luckly, again, they were benign and, apart from two big scars on my back and a slight limp you wouldn't know.  It's ok though. The chicks dig scars! lol

With Tikays above post, has he caught the wrestling bug after Saturdays show???

I have a couple of probz multi-ing mtts........ (well alot more but it's a 4 hour show)

    1) Reads - When playing cash I have mental notes on all the players, I see them day in, day out, I don't need to get to know them. In mtts it's a pool of unknown players largely, so I have to get some reads, and remind myself constantly using the note boxes.

    2) Tilt - With cash, if something horrific happens, you can always sit out the next hand and close them all down. With mtt's, I could be deep in 4/5, take a big hit in 1, and self destruct in the other 4. I can't pause, or leave, I have to play on.

Huge respect for 'good' MTT grinders.

    -----------------------------------------

    Lucky.....

When I split with the ex missus a good 4/5 years ago, we agreed to lose all contact with eachother until the following Christmas, when we would send a friendly text etc.

Got paraletic the boxing day after xmas and on the way home from the boozer @ 4am, rung her up and got her answer phone. Declared my love for her and all that, made myself sound a plonker....

Next day I get a text from her, saying she got a new fone for Christmas, and she'd changed sim card and obv binned the other 1.

    Run better.

    ------------------------------

    Question for Dylan....

If he sat on one end of a sea-saw, and Hoggers sat on the other, who would end up in the air?

    ------------------------------

    Have a good en lads.

multi tabling Mtts i find extremely easy now. Although what i do is i teand to register for 5 or 6 that will all final table around the same time. This means i can stay in a similar gear over the tables not stressing my head out too much. I set up my screen so i can see all my whole cards as well as most of the flops. If theres a player that really drags my attention i will move that table to the bottom right of the screen and free up some space so i can keep 100% attention on him while still flowing on the others.

Luck storys. Probably my biggest peice of luck. Id just lost my job at McDonalds on the Monday but i knew i already had a job interview with the local hospital for a porter job on the Thursday. I got up on the Thursday to realise all my shirts where a mess due to the cat sleeping on the chair the night before. great so i had 30 mins to get ready and get on the bus. I managed to get the majority of the cat hair and creases out of the shirt onto the bus and to the interview. However my mind set wasnt exactly great.

So interview starts with the question "why do you want this job?"

"i want money" was my reply

6am the next morning im phoned offering me the job with my choice of 3 different shifts.

Pretty amazed i got the job still. With the offer of the shifts aswell. I guess honesty goes a long way.

    Hi guys.

Been really looking forward to this show.

Questions for Dylan:  Since winning the jackpot and becoming a sky poker legend is it true that you are now having to turn down dates with gorgeous women as there is just not enough time to take them all out ?

Also how spooky was it that of all the people on the forum you were the one who actually typed in a post a few weeks before you did it that the first time it would be won would be when you yourself could be bothered to try :)

Good luck with the show mate.

    Dave.

Question for Dylan:  Are you going to spend any of your jackpot winnings on something fun/useful or are you just gonna waste it buying action in a load of clowns who have no chance of even making it to the 29th minute of a deepstack tourament?
