UKOPS Satellites - new Qualifying Format.

edited October 2011 in Poker Chat

Effective today, the UKOPS Satellite schedule & structure has changed. "Phase 1" did it's job well, so now it moves to a revised format.

The "40 seats Guaranteed irrespective of how many runners" to the Daily, "regular" UKOPS Events (i.e., all except the High Roller & Main) have now ended.

For the Monday/Monday, Tuesday/Tuesday etc qualifying, there will now be "1 in 5" feeders @ £2.60 throughout the day to a DAILY Semi, to be held at 9.15pm. Direct buy-ins to the Semi are also available, & the Semi will offer 1 seat for every 5 runners.

This will be the daily Format until notified otherwise, but almost certainly, all this week.

The daily, or more correctly, nightly, 9pm Super Sat will continue exactly as before, with 1 x £530 High Roller Seat & 5 x £220 Main Event Seats GUARANTEED. They will remain capped @ 150 runners.

If someone binks a seat in these who already has a Seat for the respective Event, they will automatically receive a cash credit to the value of the Seat.

Hmm..''phase 1'' completed..im guessing phase 1 was making lots of sattelites during the day, suddenly realising too many people are winning seats and we won't make any money on direct buy ins lol.

not too surprised they've changed was good whilst it lasted.

Err, no, not exactly, no. "Too many people winning seats"? The Seats were guaranteed!

Put it this way, if that were a penalty kick you just took, you hit the corner flag.....

The question i would like to ask.  Every satellite had overlay, what is the total overlay so far for all the sats that have run?
All the sats i have played/seen have only been getting around 50% - 60% of the required number.
Sorry about the bink on the river Tikay.

Surely this could generate even more seats with the semi's all being 1 in 5.

nothing to do with seats i wouldnt have thought just that they must have been losing £1000's a day with the overlay

No idea Bud, sorry, though it fascinates me that it interests so many people, the FB pages are full of chatter about it!

The bink on the river? I don't recall it, honestly. I know we shared Tables last night, & it was HUGE fun, especially on the Final Table, where I seem to recall you busted me, but if you asked me my exit hand in any Tourney I played last night, (I played 5 & cashed in 2 or 3 iirc) I would not be able to recall, I just move on! Presumably I was "at it" & you caught me......

I assume you went on to win it? - if so, many congrats, it was quite splendid fun. Gotta say, my PTP last night was immense fun, & I really enjoyed it.

    +1

Also have just noticed that the spt leg 1 which is next week has just gone on sale, as for the  1in10 got a seat was a bit cut throat hence the general sale now to fill it, and some players having paid a fair chunk of money to try and qualify i think this and the above has been a bit of a complete balls up.

OK, here's my take on it.

Sky run a new tournament (or week of tournaments) with high buy-ins and high guaranteed prize-pools. Why would they do this?

2 reasons.. 1. Keep the players who like this sort of tournament on the site
    2. Attract new players to the site with similar needs and aspirations.

Now for these to be seen as a success (and repeated year on year - or dare I say it - month on month) it looks far better if Sky gets somewhere near the minimum field required for the tournament guaranteed prize-pool. So - yes they have "given" a few seats away each day (in overlay), but have built up decent fields in those tournaments - this will look good to the top brass, and the idea may be repeated.

If we look at the Monday 20K BH - they need 100 players to make the gtd. 100 players would be a rake of 2K. So far Sky probably lost 1500 on the Monday sats (maybe a little more) - but it has gotten our attention, and will have been spoken about elsewhere - that's the point of marketing.

However, we've had the situation where qualified players are playing the sats for the overlay, and taking the prize as cash - no real benefit to Sky there - yes, they're paying £12, but the field in the actual event isn't filling up, and so it looks bad.

Hence the change in sat format for a 1 in 5 qualification, no overlay etc.

Ok tikay maybe i worded it incorrectly..by saying 'phase 1' completed it comes across as though to it was all part of a plan.
it didn't take a genius to work out the sattelites weren't maxxing out on registrants and that there was huge overlay. i can totally understand why you would change the structure but by making it sound like eveyrthing was running like clockwork and to plan when it wasn't is what i was having a dig at!
