Aaargh! it's so frustrating

I know I'm not supposed to be results orientated & the rule is 'as long as you made the correct play you'll be winning in the long run' but I'm just so tired of getting unlucky at crucial points in tournies.

Case in point :

1 off the cash bubble in a BH MTT tonight 35(ish) runners.
I was 14th overall & so was crucially trying to be aggressive albeit not to get into any flips if at all possible.

 then I get dealt A-K.

Did I actually do anything below wrong or was I just unlucky? I need to know.


I appreciate I could hae raised more preflop ( or shoved) but as I stated I didn't want to get too involved without a lock on the hand. ( especially with that particulary opponent who was the chip leader...

Shove for value 100% in this spot in a small stakes BH against a guy who limps with a big stack.

You can't win an MTT (and this should always be your aim - to win 1st prize) without winning a few flips along the way and more often than not you will have to win an all in pre flop hand when you are behind. This is the unfortunate truth about MTTs

I would like to be disproved about this point by someone who could show me a MTT win hand history without once getting it all in pre when they were less than 55% to win the hand

What makes you think if you get it in you will be flipping?

Of course you could be, but you could also have him dominated when he holds AQ, AJ, AT, A9, A8, KQ, KJ, KT and even junk like QJ, QTs....

Much more likely to be a 60%+ favourite than a 50/50 shot. And with 15xbb you can't really turn down 60%!!!

You get a great shoving hand and you make it 3x to a guy who can't fold, what would you do when flop comes 962?

Snap shove pre, make the game easy not hard.

He still has 68bbs behind which is massive at this stage of a tourny, obvz he has just got lucky to get them with this play but it also means he don't like folding so calling 2 more bbs is easy for him whereas if you shove he might still call but at least you get it all in when your a fave. I know you still did on flop but you HAD to hit, if you didn't you'd be in trouble big time.

TBH m8 id jam the lot in pre/flop taking blinds into account,By putting in a lot of your stack in with a min raise your fully commited to going all in anyway whatever cards flop, So its easier to ask the question to oppo 1st and jam all in .GL
