PLO8 showdown question, which hand shud win?

edited October 2011 in The Poker Clinic

NL O8 turbo I was watching this morning.

Couldn't understand it!

Both hands were all in pre flop.

Which hand should win the high, and which hand should win the low?

PLAYER1   -  As 4s 6s 8h
PLAYER2    - 2c 3c 8d 9d

Board       -  Qs 5s 7c 8c 6d
I thought that player 1 should win the lo hand, with A 4 5 6 7
And player 2 should win the hi hand with 5 6 7 8 9
This didn't happen, player 2 scooped the whole pot.
How can 2 3 5 6 7 beat A 4 5 6 7 for the lo ????
What am I missing?

Simply put, 23 is lower than A4 because  its 3 high against 4 high.

Dohhhh, you count back from the top for the low hand, not from the bottom.

76532 is lower and therefore ahead in a low hand than 7654A

They are the same until the fourth card, then 3 is lower than 4.

You know I've played a few PLO8 HU sng's on sky and about broke even, maybe 10-12 in the last 6 weeks...

Including 4/5 wins, unbeaten against Greghogg.

And I didn't even know that's how the low hand works......

Thanx both. The game just got alot more complicated for me! And the oval shaped wally just got even more rubbish at it than I already thought he was!!!
