Thursday Night with Tikay, Sarah and special guest David Tuchman *****official show thread*****

edited October 2011 in Poker Chat

We’re live on 865 from 8pm and on Sky Sports 4 at 10pm talking poker etiquette on the show, which could get heated...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRwvkdqJHvQ - Hellmuth v's Bellande

So we’d love your examples of good and bad etiquette on the tables both online and live with the SPT coming up this weekend...manners maketh man so what in your opinion are the major no nos when it comes to poker play, what should you NEVER do at a table? Any stories you have to share as examples please share!

Our special guest is David Tuchman who’s flying off to Vegas soon to commentate on the WSOP ‘November 9’ final, any questions for David let’s have them..

And for a bit of fun... US singer and actor Harry Belafonte was left red-faced after arranging to be interviewed on an early-morning TV show… and then falling asleep in front of the camera.  Since our tikay’s famous for catching 40 winks let’s have the strangest place you’ve fallen asleep and/or woken up

GL on the tables, see you live on 865 from 8

Sarah xx

Strangest place I ever fell asleep was in a telephone booth on platform 6 at Monchengladbach station.
    in the middle of winter.
The train I caught was delayed and I missed a connecting train to Berlin. It was snowing, freezing cold and everywhere was closed so I took refuge in a telephone booth The only place not exposed to the elements.
at 3 AM I was rudely woken by a gun placed against my temple and a man in a green uniform screaming Raus and Hande Hoch!
A ride in a police van, two hours in a cell then a ten minute chat with an interpreter later.
And I was eating a hearty breakfast then being chauffeur driven back to the station where the 6 AM train to Berlin had been held for me.
It was a brown trouser job at the time but one hell of a story to tell when you're drunk lol

    Evening All,

Just wanted to start off by saying to David that I enjoyed his series of 10 freerolls tourneys (1 winner from each) going to one final tourney SnG with Channing. Good banter...

    Poker Etiquette

To be honest, I think people give their proper attention at the poker table (Live), no headphones, no phones, no nothing. I hear a story recently of someone playing online poker on a laptop while at the table....ridiculous!

    Strange Places To Fall Asleep
Well when I was a kid I slept in the top bunk of bunk beds and I managed to fall out from the top bunk to the floor and stayed asleep, didn't realise til I woke up on the floor in the morning. Does that count? :)

    See you tomorrow night folks

    Paul

GREAT posts!  Thanks for sharing - look forward to getting them on the show tonight...

Only fair that I confess then:  I once fell asleep ON AIR, on a particularly early breakfast show, the briefest of microsleeps probably only seconds but I woke up to silence...

    I don't work there anymore...

    BAD ETIQUETTE ONLINE ??

For me its terra bad when someone slow roll's the nutz to ure all-in river bet when its HU , ive even seen them put LOL in the chatbox afterwards as well.

RE ETIQUETTE . I dont consider myself a bad loser we all get out drawn and all do it to others . But somethings been bothering me for months .I was on final table of saturday side event at cardiff spt  blinds where big and fellow limps in cut off. I was big blind  i thought at time it was a bit suss then i looked down at qq and ignoreing  my niggle pushed all in . only to be snapped off by AA which held . I uttered the f word several times and left the table i did return a few moments later to shake fellows hand but still feel that the correct etiquette would have been to shake his hand and with a smile comment on his sneaky good play lol. have agood show all tonight and see you all at dtd

When it gets you that bad, you know the gambling bug has bitten a bit too hard!

The Gent in question was a Mr P Linton, & he certainly managed to offend a good few players with his verbals that day, too. I won't defend him, but he's spent most of his adult life in front of a laptop, & so his social skills leave, perhaps, a little to be desired.

    Takes all types.

I would imagine we will be once again blessed with his Company this weekend, too, he sort of lives at DTD. I could tell you a few good stories about him, too, but maybe they are best left for another day.

I thought he was called Mr P. Lock. I must have been mistaken.

    As for poker etiquette........

I'm always polite if I win or lose but I do accept some people take bad beats to heart and have a harder time dealing with their emotions.

To be honest I can accept that more than when I see people complaining to fellow players about what they perceive to be bad play. Who are we to tell someone how to play ? They've paid their entrance fee so it's upto them how they play.

Yes we may all be thinking how can you fold there ? or how can you call that ammount ?..... but to see people saying it to another player at the table or in the chatbox annoys me.

Oh and i'm not talking about presenters/analysts discussing such things away from the table. That's perfectly fine.

Worst example of poker etiquette is when someone calls with a better hand than mine!
Outrageous and should not be allowed!!!

    Have a great show..

Hi Thursday Night with Tikay, Sarah & Special Guest David Tuchman.

As you are aware SPORNYBOL is in the hospital at the mo, but he has sent a special message for this thread.

    And I Quote

Oynutter glad your recoving now but if they`ve taken out that one nutty brain cell off yours i can think off a few other places were you can stick those extra banana`s.

DTWBANDIT get well soon bud but don`t ask nutty for any banana`s as he has now got other uses for them, if you wish you can have one of my melons, on second thoughts i`ll think i`ll keep my nurses.

    Now for poker etiquette part

Good etiquette - Is when you`ve dropped a silent but violent one at the tables and then leave with the other players to get air.

Bad etiquette - Is when you`ve dropped a silent  but violent one at the tables but you stay there while others are going to get air, and you sit there stealing the blinds for the next minutes

The strangest place i`ve woken up, was tikay`s bed while holding his mallards, ohh hang on that was the nitemare i woke too this morning, i blame the high tempature.

    Many thanks again
    Ruth and Martin (Spornybol)

    Question for Dave please....

Where do you think you need to draw the line in terms of overthinking things?

For instance, in a DYM we all know the best way to play is good solid poker, tighten up your opening range and be aggressive when you hit. But if you're on a table of regulars, and EVERYONE knows that is the way to play, then surely the best way to play becomes the opposite of that? But then what if everyone else is thinking the same thing? You see my point? lol.

That's the funniest thing I have ever read from sporny. If hospital is improving his sense of humour maybe they should keep him there.

I like this, very interesting topic!
It certainly amuses me when somebody says" how can you call that?"
We are not all of the same mind set!

Hi Sarah, tikay, and welcome back David

Yes, I am still here making a nuisance of myself ;), how about falling asleep in a toilet? on a wall, sat up? even sat at the PC :)

Get well soon to our 3 players who are hossy too.

ahhhhhhhhh  etiquette..................manners...................both should apply equally to winning and losing hands and runs..............there is a proper way to behave in poker as in life..................sadly, in the modern world manners seem to be disappearing and the poker-world applies just the same.

have a good show, and its always nice to see you on the channel Sarah.

oh, and always respect, and take time out for the dealers..............if they tell you youve done something wrong, ie stringbets, a call instead of raise, just accept the decision...............im getting old

hows the online poker david....ohhh sorry too soon lol
  • edited October 2011
i try to behave at the table how I would want others to behave towards toward me.  No point getting upset at others behaviour though.  They may just be trying to tilt you and I wouldn't want to give them the satisfaction.

The strangest place I have fallen asleep is probably in a pub toilet once.  One too many beers I think lol

I definitely understand what David is saying, and certainly if you miss information then yeah it's your own loss but I  think it just takes away from the fun of live poker. One of the things I love about playing live is all the banter, and I think you lose that with headphones etc. If you're gonna sit in a world of your own with headphones etc then you might aswell play online cos you might as well not be there.

Hi Sarah,David and Tikay i have just tuned in and must say go on Tikay you are the man what a start to a show.I would also like to say that on Saturday night's mastercash Tikay summed up perfectly with the phrase "proper bad beats"what is happening with the three people on the community who are suffering varying degrees of ill  health.

Now i need to think of an insult to Tikay as i dont normally agree with him this much.

    Hi Guys - gr8 show

I watched the clip and thought you had to had to show your hand anyway to win a pot, even if your opponont mucks them

As for falling asleep . In my younger days when we used to hang around town we often slept in the big doorways in Marks and Spencers behind Blackpool Tower .

Some of the girls would bring blanckets down and if it got to cold , which it often did we would just pop round the corner into Center Cue, the local snooker club on the prom and sleep under the tables toward the back of the hall.

Have a good show - MP - Paul  and thx again to Tikay for sorting my prize out  after so long
     - looking forward to it already
